Synology RT6600 Overview

Support your computer, mobile, and smart devices with fast and reliable wireless network connections using the RT6600 AX6600 Wireless Tri-Band 2.5G / Gigabit Router from Synology. Powered by a 1.8 GHz processor with 1GB of memory and six external antennas, this tri-band Wi-Fi 6 network router is designed to transfer up to 6600 Mb/s over the 2.4 GHz and dual 5 GHz bands, delivering smooth video streaming, online gaming, and video chat experiences. Support for the 5.9 GHz band allows access to the less congested 80 and 160 MHz channels, which provides both a clearer signal and higher bandwidth.

With its 2.5G combo port, you can make get the most out of multi-Gig internet connections or high-speed network storage devices. Three Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports are available for wired computer, smart TV, and video game console connections in addition to a dedicated Gigabit WAN port for broadband modems. Use the mobile app to quickly configure, manage, and monitor your network from almost anywhere. Your wireless signal is protected by up to WPA3 encryption.

I have three mesh units...are the MR2200AC units compatible?

Yes. You have to update all the routers to the same version of SRM firmware. Right now, the most recent version of firmware is 1.3.1 RC (Release Candidate). Since it's RC, you have to manually download and apply this version to each router. The final Stable version of 1.3.x probably comes out later this month. I got mine today and have two MR2200ac in mesh with it. Later on, I'll put my old main router, the RC2600ac, also in mesh with it. I've already updated it just haven't decided where to place it or if I should swap places with one of my MR2200ac and find a new place for that one.

Will this unit accept the RT2600ac in a mesh ...

Will this unit accept the RT2600ac in a mesh network along with a MR2200ac? I currently have one of each.

Ues you can use the rt6600 as your main router and use rt2600ac and mr2200ac as mesh. I tried it and it works. Mind you, you shall update rt2600 and mr2200 to firmware 1.3 manually before going ahead (rt6600 does not recognize firmware 1.2)

Besides all the standard security measures most provide, my main security interest is not just VLAN, but tying SSIDs to hardwired VLANs thus separating both my wireless and wired IoT devices from my Compute devices.

Is there any advantage of buying two RT6600 over the bundle with RT6600 and WRX560 or vice versa?

Each of the bundles the Synology RT6600 AX6600 Wireless Tri-Band 2.5G / Gigabit Router comes in are designed for different uses. The bundle with the RT2600AC is a VPN bundle meant to establish a remote VPN between your home network network with the RT6600 and an office network with the RT2600AC. While the bundle with the WRX560 is a mesh bundle meant to create a mesh network.

Is there a recommended size and speed for the usb drive required to use the Threat Prevention app? I want to make sure my drive is of a sufficient size and I wasn't able to find anything on the Synology website.

Threat Prevention has worked ok for me with a small (16GB) USB drive. It doesn't even use most of this storage space. Synology recommends formatting to ext4 for best performance. Threat Prevention should work well with the RT6600ax due to its more powerful CPU. It is not compatible with the MR2200.
