Surprisingly Slow

I bought this drive to replace a 24TB Seagate drive that literally crashed (it fell off my desk and broke). That Seagate drive utilized a USB-A 3.0 connection so I figured this LaCie drive, with its USB-C 3.2 connection, would be at least as fast. Wrong. In hindsight, perhaps the limiting factor is something like the write speed, as opposed to the USB connection. While my old Seagate drive copied data at approximately 250 MB/s, this LaCie drive performs more around 180-200 MB/s. The difference is no big deal for small tasks, but large tasks take significantly longer than they did with my old drive. The LaCie drive also has an external blue light that brightly blinks. If that light serves some function, its purpose is escaping me. The blinking is kind of annoying so I turned the drive around so the light is less in my face. Overall, the drive works, but its performance is very disappointing, and I wish I had bought something else.

The 8TB drive is neither TB2 or TB3, but it is compatible with TB3 ports and cables. Spinning hard drives are innately far slower than type C or Thunderbolt 3 cables or ports are capable of. Mega bytes vs Giga Bytes. So the whole thing is mute.

If you are using a Mac, then check out SuperDuper by "Shirt-Pocket" as a backup software. It makes the external drive and any partition of it "bootable". My internal drive just failed last week, and I am writing this from my older LaCie d2 firewire 800, which was backed up and made bootable.

Is there a minimum Operating System requirement for use on Mac? On Apple's website, they say it's OSX 10.12 for this model.

LaCie lists a requirement of macOS 10.14 or higher for their external drives.
