Really Right Stuff BA7IV-LS Overview

The L-Plate Set for Sony from Really Right Stuff is a modular design composed of an Arca-type compatible base plate and L-component that facilitate easier, more stable switching between horizontal and vertical shooting orientations. Laser-engraved center marks on the back of the plate help to keep the camera centered when working atop a tripod.

The L-Plate maintains complete access to the battery door and the camera's ports, all without obstruction of the camera's LCD monitor. Both parts can be separated slightly and retightened with the included hex key if more room is needed for your tethering or cable release. In addition, this CNC-machined plate has a durable Type II black anodized finish, and a threaded accessory mounting socket allows you to attach a camera strap and carry the camera in comfort.

Really Right Stuff BA7IV-LS Reviews

Love It

Worth the money. Fits the Sony A7iv like a glove. I have thick fingers, so the little extended lip at the battery door is very helpful for me. I am an Architect and take lots of vertical oriented pictures on a tripod, and the bracket makes it easier to keep the head locked in level while I change the orientations shot to shot. I also use the bracket to clamp on a phone mount to keep me on schedule, see texts, and field calls while taking shots. I do wish there was one 1/4" mount on the side, at the top edge, maybe.

RRS Quality!

I have always loved the quality of RRS L brackets and this one exceeded my expectations. I have never liked or trusted L brackets for flip screen cameras because of the weak split part of the brackets in portrait orientation, they normally flex and feel unsafe to use but RRS has perfected the problems the others have. This design while still having the split to accommodate the A7IV flip screen, it is very robust and can lock into a tripod with no flexing at all for a very secure mount. Are RRS brackets pricey? Yes. But you get what you pay for and I can say this one is absolutely worth it if you plan to use your A7IV in portrait orientation on a tripod. It is worth having the full L bracket rather than just the base plate.

How does this not impede the full action of the LCD?
Asked by: Jorin
The L-component is designed to shift forward (fore/aft) to allow for full extension of the LCD, and then the cutout section allows the screen to be angle 90 degrees above or below (meaning facing upward or downward), with 70 degrees of articulation in that position. If more LCD articulation is required for a particular event, shoot, or shot, the L-component itself can be removed.

The Really Right Stuff Modular L-Plate Set for Sony a7 IV is made for the camera only and not the camera plus the grip. Currently we do not sell an L Bracket that is specifically compatible with the A7IV plus the grip.

is this compatible with Sony A7RV?
Asked by: Prabhat
No, as of now Really Right Stuff hasn't confirmed this as of yet, but I do not believe that L plate will be fully compatible with the a7R V because this camera has a different 4-axis multi-angle LCD screen that swings out to the side; the L plate may prevent full use of the screen's movements. Also, the a7R V has a slightly different port configuration on the side now that there is a full-size HDMI port, so access to these ports may be limited with the a7R IV plate's design.
