This is very easy to use, 'except' for getting used to securing the extended arm so that it didn't retract down by itself. I would have liked a way of securing its position better and easier. Overall, it is well built and sturdy. I believe this will come in very handy for some special positioning situations for my camera angles.

I purchased this arm to mount on my tripod and filmed VR videos. An arm is essential for filming this type of video, so the tripod legs are not visible.
I very much like how portable this arm is and how easy it is to deploy, so I can start filming in no time.
If the manufacturer reads this review, I have two suggestions to improve it: 1) Make it extend 10 extra centimetres; 2) Include a carrying case.

How does this offer 23" extension when the tube is only 16" long and part of that is a rubber grip?

The Leofoto GC-282AL Geared Multi-Function Arm has a turned knob locked to expand the arm in between 16- 25''. The last image on this product displays the arm closed at 16'' and fully extended at 25''.

Does this have a panning feature in the horizontal plane? The utube video shows it does, but the photos don't show it.

Yes, the Leofoto GC-282AL Geared Multi-Function Arm does support panning of the horizontal plane. The handle can be twisted to unlock/lock the vertical tilt as well as the horizontal pan.
