Lightweight, Ultra-Wide, Power Zoom
A lens built with the hybrid shooter in mind, the Sony E 10-20mm f/4 PZ G is a lightweight and versatile ultra-wide-angle APS-C zoom ideally suited for vlogging and content creation needs. Featuring Power Zoom, intuitive handling, and advanced optics, this portable go-to lens excels at daily shooting applications and the updated autofocus performance also brings it up to speed for stunning video production capabilities.
Optimized for Video and Vlogging
Built with vlogging in mind, this lens's key attributes relate to video recording performance, ease of use, and a highly versatile design:
  • Electronically controlled internal Power Zoom mechanism enables making smooth zooms during takes, with control possible via the lens body, using either the zoom lever or the zoom ring, or from select camera bodies.
  • Internal zoom and internal focus design maintains the overall lens length during operation and also helps to reduce any shifts to the lens's center of gravity for better performance when mounted to a handheld gimbal.
  • Linear AF system is especially quiet and smooth and also supports Linear Response MF for natural manual focusing control.
  • Smooth Motion Optics (SMO) suppresses focus breathing to help maintain compositional accuracy when changing focus. This lens is also compatible with the Breathing Compensation function in select Alpha cameras.
G Series Optics
Ultra-wide-angle zoom offers a versatile 15-30mm equivalent focal length range, striking an ideal balance between being wide enough for handheld, selfie style vlogging and narrow enough for natural, everyday recording. Also, the constant f/4 maximum aperture offers consistency throughout the zoom range and marries brightness with a compact design.
  • Three aspherical elements help achieve high sharpness and suppress distortion and spherical aberrations.
  • Two ED elements promote greater clarity and color accuracy by reducing chromatic aberrations.
  • One ED Aspherical element further contributes to impressive image quality by correcting for a variety of aberrations.
  • Circular diaphragm contributes a smooth and natural bokeh quality.
Refined Focusing Performance
Linear Motor system uses two separate motors to provide quick, quiet, and precise autofocus and tracking performance. This design also contributes to more natural, intuitive Linear Response manual focus control and an AF/MF switch is located on the lens barrel for quick focus mode switching.
  • Internal focusing design offers more responsive focusing performance and maintains a consistent overall lens length during operation.
  • Suitable for close-up shooting, the minimum focusing distance at the 10mm position is 5.1" and, at the 20mm position, is 6.7" with a 0.18x maximum magnification; both of these close-up distances are only possible with manual focus. When using autofocus, the minimum focusing distance is 7.9" with a 0.14x maximum magnification.
Lightweight Design, Intuitive Handling
This 10-20mm f/4 prioritizes compactness and sports a lightweight design while still managing impressive optical performance and notable f/4 constant maximum aperture. The lens is also weather-sealed and has an intuitive design for easy operability, making it a versatile wide-angle go-to lens for hybrid shooters and content creators.
  • Impressively lightweight design weighs 6.3 oz and the sleek design measures 2.2" long; making this lens ideal for everyday handheld use and travel applications.
  • Dust- and moisture-resistant design suits working in inclement conditions.
  • Both an integrated Power Zoom lever on lens barrel and a dedicated zoom ring can be used for simple focal length adjustment. When used on select Sony cameras, Power Zoom can also be used via on-camera controls.
  • With select Alpha cameras, the zoom ring rotation direction can also be adjusted.
  • Remote zoom control is also possible via the optional GP-VPT2BT Wireless Shooting Grip or from a linked smartphone.

Sony E 10-20mm f/4 PZ G Reviews

Just what I needed!

I do primarily Real Estate photography. The older, 10-18 that I had been using gave a lot of window bloom and sun flare. This G lens does a much better job of dealing with those situations. This is a really great lens at this price point!

Has a noticeable IR hotspot, but might be okay for visible light photography

I purchased this lens about 2.5 months after it debuted. I was unable to find it listed as either pro or con on any Infrared hotspot list, so I had to test it on my own. Unlike my Sony 18-55 mm and 18-135 mm lenses, this one demonstrated a hotspot at most of its focal lengths when employing a 780 nm high pass filter. This hotspot is so intense at small apertures as to deem it unusable for IR photography. As I returned it in a timely fashion, B&H refunded my purchase (save, as per their policy, the insured shipping cost to send it back.)

A Great High Quality Lens

I'm using this on my Sony a6600, and it is great for outdoor and indoor shots calling for an ultra-wide lens. Excellent sharpness and the powered zoom feature is great when doing video. Having image stabilization in your camera is a real plus, and this is the case with the a6600. This might be a consideration for those considering this lens.

The best

I have the Sony A6600 with the Sony lens E 2.8/16-55G. This combination is perfect for me. I do need sharps pictures (that's all I care. I graduated from Canon AR7 IV!), and this one makes me very happy. Since I travel a lot, this combination is a bit heavy for me. Last month after many researches, read many reviews I was looking for a new lens for my trip to France. I decide to buy this new Sony lens E 10-20 f/4 G, and am I happy about it. Not only, this combination is quite light, but pictures are razor sharps as well. We went to Marseille, St Tropez for one week, pictures are very sharp.

Asked by: Robert
Yes, you can manually zoom via the zoom ring on the Sony E 10-20mm f/4 PZ G lens. Bear in mind that the lens operates via an electronic fly-by-wire system as will only zoom when the lens is powered.

I own A6600 with lens E2.8/16-55 G. For travelling which is one is better quality: Sony E 10-20mm f/4 PZ G or Sony E 15mm f/1.4 G?
Asked by: Johnny
Well, I already bought this lens right before my Europe trip June 2022. Let me tell you guys, I am very happy with this lens. At first, I was hesitated that the f/4 will render all my pictures quite dark? I was wrong. This lens has all the requirement that I want: very wide angle (no fish eyes), very sharp, and quite bright. To add more brightness, I also use the Sony flash F20M, which is very convenient because of its small size and retract when not in use. Only one thing I am not happy is that lens is not on sale when I bought it, boo hoo!

Will there be any problem if I use this lens on my SONY FX3?
Asked by: weihan
Sony E 10-20mm f/4 PZ G Lens is an apsc lens and the Sony FX3 is full frame, so the lens will crop the sensor. Less than half of the available megapixels will be used. The angle of view will increase by 1.5x

How would this lens perform for astro ...

How would this lens perform for astro -photography?
Asked by: Thomas F.
The Sony E 10-20mm f/4 PZ G Lens would be a great ultra-wide zoom lens for astrophotography usage needs. In comparison to the Sony E 10-18mm f/4 OSS Lens, while this lens does benefit from Optical SteadyShot Image Stabilization, the Sony E 10-20mm f/4 PZ G Lens would have much better optical performance and has less smearing and more point focus, especially toward the edge of the lens. If you need the best optical image quality and do not mind losing a bit of width, the Sony E 15mm f/1.4 G Lens would be eight (8) times brighter and has even better optical performance, but for a zoom option, the new Sony E 10-20mm f/4 PZ G Lens is highly recommended for astrophotography usage needs.

Asked by: Anerson
Technically, yes. However, the Sony E 10-20mm f/4 PZ G lens is an APS-C/Super35 crop lens, and would be a relatively poor match for the full-frame FX3 cine camera.
