Comica Audio BOOMX-U QUA Overview

Designed for mobile journalists, videographers, and vloggers, the Comica BoomX-U QUA is a compact, true-wireless UHF microphone system with four mic/transmitters and just one receiver. It offers a complete solution for recording dialogue, interviews, and speech with four people talking simultaneously—directly to a mirrorless/DSLR camera or a mobile device.

The ultralightweight BoomX-U QUA consists of four ultracompact clip-on transmitters, each with its own built-in omnidirectional microphone and a separate lavalier microphone. It also comes with a tiny receiver that mounts on and plugs directly into your camera. Additionally, the included TRRS output cable gives you the option to plug the receiver into any smartphone equipped with a headphone jack.

The system operates in the UHF frequency band to deliver reliable transmission with clear sound at a line-of-site distance up to 394'. The built-in rechargeable batteries provide up to 6.5 hours of operation. Versatile and extremely easy to use with simple controls, the BoomX-U QUA is well suited for content creators of any experience level.

Four Microphones into One Receiver
  • The four-channel receiver allows you to save space on your shooting rig by using a single receiver to simultaneously receive signals from the four mic/transmitters.
  • The receiver features a belt clip, which also doubles as a shoe mount adapter for your camera.
  • In the absence of a smartphone holder, the receiver can also be clamped to your smartphone, using the belt clip.
Built-In Mics for True Wireless
  • Each transmitter is equipped with a built-in microphone and a 3.5mm mic input that accepts the included lavalier microphone.
  • For a truly wireless experience, the transmitter can be clipped on clothing without having to wire yourself or your talent. You can also hold the transmitter in your hand and use it as a handheld microphone.
  • The On/Off switch doubles as a high-pass filter switch, allowing you to eliminate unwanted low-end frequencies for clearer speech.
  • Furry windscreens are supplied to fit over the integrated mics on the transmitters to reduce wind and breath noise for more intelligible speech and dialog.
Lavalier Mics Included
  • For a more discreet setup, use the small lavalier microphones, which can be easily concealed away from the camera's eye.
  • Foam windscreens are included with the lavs to reduce wind, breath, and plosive noise
Easy-to-Operate Wireless for 4 People
  • This plug-and-play system is easy to use. It comes pre-paired at the factory; connect it to your camera, turn it On, and you're ready to start recording.
  • The receiver's crisp LCD shows signal strength, audio level, output configuration, and battery life.
  • Adjust the gain on each transmitter remotely from the receiver.
  • The receiver features two 3.5mm output jacks and a 3.5mm headphone jack for monitoring.
  • The system includes a 3.5mm TRS cable for your camera and a 3.5mm TRRS cable for your smartphone or mobile device; a 3.5mm to XLR cable is also supplied
  • You have the option to mix all four microphones together to a single dual-mono output or separate all of them and send the signals to the left and right channels on each of the receiver's two 3.5mm outputs. If your camera or recording device offers two stereo inputs or four mono inputs, you can record each mic on an individual track, allowing you to isolate each person's dialog and adjust each level individually later in post.
  • The transmitters and the receiver are powered via a built-in lithium-ion rechargeable battery. They can also be powered via USB, even while in use, giving you near unlimited operating time.
Monitor in Real Time
  • If your camera doesn’t have a headphone jack, you can monitor your sound via the receiver’s 3.5mm headphone output while recording to ensure that you are capturing a clean signal.
UHF Wireless for Longer Distances
  • Whereas typical digital wireless systems are susceptible to interference from Wi-Fi devices, the BoomX-U QUA operates in the UHF spectrum, far away from the crowded 2.4 GHz band.
  • The system automatically scans the UHF spectrum to find an open frequency. For optimal performance, environments with minimal physical obstructions are recommended.

Battery life is advertised as 6.5 hours. When I used them on a fresh, full charge, each unit died between 3 and 3 1/2 hours of continuous use.

Can I use any mic with this like a tram, sanken, DPA?
Asked by: Ryan
Yes, it is possible to use different microphones with the Comica Audio BoomX-U QUA Ultracompact 4-Person Wireless Microphone System for Mirrorless/DSLR Cameras as long as the microphone has the appropriate 3.5mm TRS locking connector and wiring, and does not require more voltage than the transmitter is able to supply. The Tram TR-50 and Sanken COS-11D Lavalier Microphones that are wired for compatibility with Sennheiser transmitters should both work, and certain DPA models may also work with the Comica transmitters, depending on their voltage requirements.

Will a dual head lav mic work to record two people on one receiver?
Asked by: Saruthan
The transmitters, not the receiver, from the Comica Audio BoomX-U QUA Ultracompact 4-Person Wireless Microphone System for Mirrorless/DSLR Cameras (568 to 591 MHz) have a 3.5mm input for an external microphone. A dual-head lavalier mic can be connected to a BoomX-U transmitter to capture audio from two people.

Could I use the headphone port on the receiver to send the signal to a different system?
Asked by: Aaron
The Comica Audio BoomX-U QUA Ultracompact 4-Person Wireless Microphone System has two outputs, a main Mic Output and a Headphone Output. The Mic Output is the correct type of signal for cameras, mobile devices, and recorders. The Headphone Output on the other hand is really only the correct voltage and impedance for a pair of headphones. It could be used as a line output in an emergency, but quality will be undesirable and the signal will be too hot for something expecting a microphone-level signal.

Is 32 bit possible via an audio interface and supported mic’s?
Asked by: Saruthan
The Comica Audio BoomX-U QUA Ultracompact 4-Person Wireless Microphone System for Mirrorless/DSLR Cameras (568 to 591 MHz) cannot record in 32-bit float, as it uses 24-bit digital UHF technology. The microphone system itself does not support 32-bit float recording, even if connected to a compatible 32-bit audio interface.
