Goof Mac Time Machine Backup External Drive

Purchased this drive to use as a Time Machine backup external drive for a new IMac. Device was easy to set up and works as expected. Not the fastest external hard drive but that is not critical for use as a Time Machine back up. The drive is very quiet and you can't hear it when it is in use. The drive is approximately the size of an iPhone (and thicker) so if space on your desktop is critical, you may want to evaluate something smaller.

Does "out of the box " mean I do not have to do ...

Does "out of the box " mean I do not have to do anything but plug and play .. with my Mac (iMac2019 and MacBook Pro2019). ?
