Versatile, as compact as a soda can, and weighing only one pound, the Backscatter Macro Wide 4300-Lumen Video Light is a comprehensive underwater lighting solution for both enthusiast and professional camerawork.
The light's 4300-lumen wide mode, well-suited for compact camera systems, has three power levels and an 85° angle of coverage to brightly expose foregrounds while limiting backscatter. The 1400-lumen macro mode is tailored to macro shooters of all systems with five power levels for granular control of the light output. The light can also be used as a focus light for photography, and Alert, Beacon, and SOS flashing patterns allow for safety and coordination during night shoots.
Snooting and Macro Shooting
The spot beam on the MW-4300 was designed for macro shooters and to be paired with the Optical Snoot OS-1, available separately. The beam pattern has a hard edge, minimizing spill into unwanted areas of the shot. The snoot further isolates the subject from the background, creating deep black backdrops for even the smallest sea creatures. From the ground up, the Macro Wide has been designed to be used with the Optical Snoot, throwing the brightest possible beam on your subject and allowing for higher shutter speeds and shutter angles. The color temperature for the macro beam is approximately 5000K for saturated color reproduction.
Wide Beam, Compact Body
The 4300-lumen, 85° wide beam pattern is designed for wide-angle video, and pairs well with a GoPro or a compact camera for shooters looking to keep travel size without sacrificing light output. The beam pattern has been calibrated for balance between beam angle and brightness, optimizing it for well-lit foreground subjects while preventing backscatter. Additionally, the wide beam on each light is factory-set at a color temperature of 6000K to ensure the uniformity of multi-light setups.
Red Mode for Stealth on Night Dives
Use the red mode for night diving, as a focus light for macro, or for setting up a video scene. Its three power levels allow you to stealthily approach skittish critters that are wary of nighttime lights.
Interchangeable Batteries, Sealed Compartment
The Backscatter Macro Wide 4300 Video Light uses two standard 21700 li-ion batteries that can be changed between dives. At full power on the wide beam, the light has a runtime of 50 minutes of continuous use. On the macro beam, the run time is 110 minutes at full power. Battery and safety maintenance begins with the double O-ring seal cap, which minimizes water intrusion. The compartment also has an overpressure safety relief valve in case of battery failure and a sand seal gasket to block sand from the main body O-rings. The battery compartment is completely sealed from the rest of the light.
Buttons and Indicators
The control set has three buttons to control all functions of the light, making it straightforward and easy to operate. On/off and mode switching are done with the front button and light level, Alert, and Beacon with the two rear buttons. There is an indicator light to conveniently show if the light is in macro mode and an integrated LED indicator showing the three levels of remaining battery life in green, yellow, and red.
