Empowering the ThinkBook 15 G4 is a 12th Gen Intel Core i7 processor, boasting two Performance and eight Efficiency cores with max clock speeds up to 4.7 and 3.5 GHz, respectively. With 16GB of 3200 MHz DDR4 RAM and a 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD, you can experience swift multitasking capabilities, faster application loading, and enough space to save your most essential documents. A single Thunderbolt 4 port enables you to leverage resource-demanding peripherals such as storage arrays, displays, and more, allowing you to use your ThinkBook 15 G4 in workstation-like setups. Experience a clear and smooth picture with the 15.6" In-Plane Switching (IPS) touchscreen display, giving you wide viewing angles backed by integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics, offering vibrant color leveraging the 45% NTSC gamut. Two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports deliver up to 5 Gb/s data transfer speeds for external drives while also offering support for devices such as keyboards, mice, and more. No, the Lenovo 15.6" ThinkBook 15 G4 IAP Notebook (Mineral Gray) does not support DDR5 RAM, only DDR4. i would recommend considering the Crucial 32GB DDR4 2666 MHz SO-DIMM Memory Module for your upgraded RAM. See: https://bit.ly/3kqbZd0

I know one SSD slot is in use and it supports both PCIE 3 and 4 generation. What is the maximum read and write, transfer to external ssd speed supported by the motherboard? What is Maximum SSD Be expanded to?

This Lenovo ThinkBook 15 G4, model number 21DJ000PUS, ships with 1x 256GB SSD M.2 2242 PCIe 3.0x4 NVMe, and supports Up to two drives, 2x M.2 SSD (M.2 2242 SSD up to 1TB, M.2 2280 SSD up to 1TB).

Is the motherboard and SSD both PCIE 4X4?

The Lenovo 15.6" ThinkBook 15 G4 IAP Notebook (Mineral Gray) does have two M.2 2242, 2280 PCIe 3.0 / PCIe 4.0 x4 slots, one that is not in use and one that is occupied by the included 256 GB PCIe 3.0 SSD.
