For as fragile as it is should be considered an expendable item. Terrible design and not suitable for the rigors of production
Great monitor for controlled shooting situations indoors. But if you want something for run and gun outside, this hood is painfully lacking. DPs need a four sided hood to push their face into to block out all the light and see what they're actually shooting in order to judge focus and exposure and vibe. Having the bottom completely open, and the sides tapering, while fine for touch screen use (but isn't that what the joystick is for? So we don't have to swipe?) but it makes this monitor very frustrating to use outside. When handheld, at the hip or under your arm, chances are your monitor is tilted up, at the sun, and it doesn't matter how many nits the screen is, you're going to get a glare, and you're going to get a washed out image. Having used the cine 7 for many years, and the Ultra 5 before this, I miss that four sided hood and cage design. Not only was it great for getting rid of all the light contaminating your screen, but it's rigid poles were a great extra point of contact when operating handheld, and the soft fabric was must more comfortable when smooshed up against your face than this hard brittle plastic. One final gripe - this hood doesn't fold completely flat. It's just a final slight from this design, and it's plastic - so I don't feel great about it's chances of surviving in a gear bag.
