The Q18 17.3" 12G-SDI/HDMI Broadcast Studio Monitor from Lilliput is a 17.3" broadcast studio and field monitor with a V-mount battery plate and a native resolution of 3840 x 2160. It has the capability of supporting up to DCI 4K60 and automatically scales all incoming video signals to properly display these on its UHD screen, which boasts a 1200:1 contrast ratio, a viewing angle of 170°, and 400 cd/m² brightness. The Q18 features an HDMI 2.0 input and HDMI loop-through output, as well as two 12G-SDI and two 3G-SDI inputs with respective12G-SDI and 3G-SDI outputs.

Lilliput Q18 Overview

The Q18 17.3" 12G-SDI/HDMI Broadcast Studio Monitor from Lilliput is a 17.3" broadcast studio and field monitor with a V-mount battery plate and a native resolution of 3840 x 2160. It has the capability of supporting up to DCI 4K60 and automatically scales all incoming video signals to properly display these on its UHD screen, which boasts a 1200:1 contrast ratio, a viewing angle of 170°, and 400 cd/m² brightness. The Q18 features an HDMI 2.0 input and HDMI loop-through output, as well as two 12G-SDI and two 3G-SDI inputs with respective12G-SDI and 3G-SDI outputs. 

The monitor supports HDR color spaces and the optional PRO/LTE ColourSpace CMS for critical color correction workflows. You can also load custom 3D LUTs for quick access to a variety of color reference options. A 12 VDC power supply is included for powering the monitor from an AC outlet when working within a studio environment, or you may also power the unit with a V-mount battery using the included battery plate.

HDR and 3D LUTs
When HDR is activated, the display reproduces a greater dynamic range of luminosity, allowing for colors and lighter and darker details to be displayed more clearly. You can use preset Logs or load your own custom LUTs in .cube format via the front panel USB port.

Audio
The monitor can display the Lissajous shape, most useful when used in audio post-production work for detecting phase variance.
Assignable Buttons
Using the four assignable buttons on the front panel, you can quickly turn any four essential monitoring tools on and off without venturing into the monitor's menu system.
Remote Control
The monitor supports RS-422 via discrete in and out RJ45 connectors. This allows you to control the monitor from computer applications, as well as link multiple monitors together.
Calibration
The monitor supports color calibration using an optional PRO/LTE version of ColourSpace CMS to ensure your monitor is displaying your image accurately.
Fiber
An integrated slot accepts an optional SFP+ module, should you require an SFP+ fiber connection.

It's pretty good, especially for a rack-mountable 17 with 12G and HLG input. The viewing angle is my only complaint. Your face really needs to be square with it both vertically and horizontally. The scopes are fantastic! Since the feet don't allow the monitor to tilt up or down, we use a third party generic desktop VESA monitor stand that folds flat. That's the only way this monitor is useable on a desk given the terrible vertical viewing angle. Does it compare to the $30,000 Sony? Not even close. The $3,000 16 OLED Boland, of course no. Then again, for the price, it is a perfectly working solution. So overall, I'd say it's decent go-to for single-person use.

I spent a lot of time looking for a 17 field monitor to replace my dated Panasonic LH17. This newly released Lilliput fit the bill perfectly, and does so much more than expected. I often DP multiple camera shoots and love the 4 SDI inputs. You can cycle through them full screen, or get them in quad mode - even if you are using only two or three of the inputs. The manual is nearly useless (like most these days), so took me a little bit of back and forth with tech support (very responsive), to figure out how to set that up. I then assigned quad mode to one of the function buttons. The colors seem accurate, it's bright, and it is loaded with onscreen tools, built in LUTs, the ability to bring in custom LUTs. I do not recommend their case. I kitted out a Pelican 1600 and it fits perfectly. Very happy with this monitor so far!

Isn't 400 cd/m brightness unusually low for a broadcast monitor? Most SmallHDs are 1500 cd/m and above.

The Lilliput Q18 17.3" 12G-SDI/HDMI Broadcast Studio Monitor (V-Mount) is meant to be used indoors in a light controlled environment. It is not for use in the field.

The quad view stock photo shows a description overlay (CAM 1, CAM2....) for each quadrant. How do I get the monitor to do this?

Lilliput says to use the Remote Terminal software to control the monitor UMD function, such as turn ON/OFF UMD, color and UMD data for the Lilliput Q18 17.3" 12G-SDI/HDMI Broadcast Studio Monitor with Carrying Case (Gold Mount).

Has anyone found a small lightweight case for everyday use (not air travel but car travel?)

An option for a case for the Lilliput Q18 17.3" 12G-SDI/HDMI Broadcast Studio Monitor (Gold Mount) would be the Arco CT-TM24B LCD Transport Case for 19-24" Displays, BH #ARCTTM24B, though it is a bit oversized for the monitor and would require some additional padding.
