Tamron 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3 Di III RXD Reviews

The perfect reach and weight for hiking and travel.

This lens provides a great value with the focal lengths I use a lot when hiking or traveling. The build quality seems good and it works well with my Sony A7M4. The only down side to this lens is its lack of a zoom lock. It extends when I have it clipped to my backpack or belt.

Great Lens at a Great Price!

I purchased this lens to replace my F-mount Nikon 70-300mm. Although initially hesitant purchasing a 3rd party Z lens, this one definitely does not disappoint! This feels great using it on my Z6ii camera and has produced sharp photos. This is my new go-to lens for my daily use. Looking forward to seeing more Z lenses from Tamron!

Inexpensive lens-decent result

Overall this lens is quality for what you're paying. It's lightweight. There is no manual focus. The images have lots of noise on heavy cropping. Also be aware that I had to update the firmware on my camera for this lens to be recognized by my z7. It's a good way to get a fairly average lens for less money than the other options from Nikon.

Great lens for A7C

I am an advanced amateur and mostly take family and travel photos. I mainly post pictures on social media and some of the photo sites. When I print, I mostly print on my Canon printer to 12x16. I was looking for a low-cost travel-friendly lens to give me some reach, and this lens fills the build. It worked well at my granddaughter's field hockey game. I kept the shutter speed up to reduce camera shake and to stop action. Clearly, this is a lens for outdoors. The weight and size fit well with the A7C. I am quite pleased with the image quality. Only taken a few hundred pictures with it, and have yet to take it on the road, but so far, so good.

Lightweight and Very Sharp

I owned the Canon version of this focal range about 10 years ago. That was a fantastic lens. So is this lens. It is plenty sharp. Focusing and focus tracking are excellent. I was able to track a flying Osprey who had caught a fish some distance away. The bird was small in my frame, so I cropped it to get a larger image of the bird and the fish. To my surprise, I got a perfectly usable image after cropping. The bird was probably occupying about 5% of the frame. I used the lens with my Sony A7RIV and used the APSc mode to get to 450mm. On the trip this is the lens I used the most along with my Tamron 17-28. The combo is all I am going to bring on my next trip as I did not use any of the other Tamron lenses (28-75 and 70-180) I had with me. The 70-300 is very light. So light that it almost feels like you have a cheap lens! Let me tell you this is no cheap lens. It is light which is a major plus and a delight to carry on long hikes and it is plenty sharp for pro results.

Very good value

I paid $450 for this lens but even at the MSRP of $550 it would be a great value. Autofocus works well and the images look sharp enough on my a7IV. The lens is very lightweight so I can bring it on outings when most super-telephoto lenses would be too cumbersome. I don't find the lack of stabilization to be an issue, with IBIS I'm able to shoot handheld at 300mm in moderate light and still get sharp images. The build feels solid enough, though the focus ring is somewhat stiff. I haven't needed the weather sealing yet but it's good to know it's there.

Everything I wanted in a zoom telephoto lens.

I had been using a Nikkor Z DX 50-250 with my Z6ii. The images were ok, but with the cropped sensor, I wasn't getting the full capability of the camera. My first use of the Tamron 70-300 was shooting my great-niece's soccer game. I'm a totally inept sports photographer, but even so this camera/lens combo captured some very good images- bright and sharp subjects, with properly blurred backgrounds. Considering my lack of experience, excellent results from this lens!

Great value for my a6600

Hi, just wonder, the lens doesn't have built-in image stabilization. Using it with Nikon Z6ii, will the Z6ii built-in VR work instead? And does the overall stabilization perform well?
