Canon XA75 Overview

From Manufacturer

The Canon XA75 Professional UHD 4K Camcorder is a compact, lightweight camera featuring UHD 4K capture, a 1" CMOS sensor, two XLR audio inputs, and one each mini-HDMI and BNC 3G-SDI output, which fits right into the ENG category for documentary or journalism-style productions. Updated from its XA55 predecessor, this model features a larger 3.5mm LCD capacitive touchscreen display, a higher resolution tiltable 0.36" OLED EVF, OSD metadata recording, and fast USB Type-C video-only output with UVC support for livestreaming to a computer.

The lens optics include an integrated 15x HD optical zoom, a nine-bladed circular iris for more natural highlights, and wide DR gamma support for low-light recording. The camera's pro-style features include Dual-Pixel and Contrast autofocus, fast- and slow-motion recording, full manual control, optical and electronic image stabilization, a 3.5" touchscreen LCD, user-assignable buttons, infrared mode, and a DIG!C DV 6 image processor with high sensitivity and low noise. The XA75 also has display monitoring features such as zebra, color bars, and test tone, plus a built-in neutral density filter mechanism.

The camera records UHD 4K30 and Full HD 1080p60 captured to dual SD card slots in XF-AVC and MP4 formats, and it outputs to mini-HDMI and 3G-SDI ports. The dual SD card slots allow for automatic switching from one card to another, as well as simultaneous recording to both. The camera can output up to 1920 x 1080p 10-bit 4:2:2 video at 59.94 fps via its mini-HDMI and 3G-SDI outputs. On the audio side, the XA75 features up to four channels of LPCM audio with manual/automatic recording levels, two XLR inputs with phantom power, and a 3.5mm stereo mini input. It features a built-in stereo microphone as well as a headphone jack.

Compact Professional UHD 4K Camcorder
The XA75 captures sharp UHD images thanks to a 1" CMOS 4K sensor and DIGIC DV6 image processor. Oversampled HD delivers Full HD images from the 4K sensor.
On-Screen Display (OSD) "Time Stamp" Recording
OSD recording embeds date, time, timecode, and other data into your original camera files, effectively "time stamping" the information into each frame of video, a requirement for legal and law enforcement videographers.
UVC Livestreaming
Stream HD video directly from the camera via UVC1 to a Windows or macOS computer. Audio output through USB is not supported.
4K 15x Optical Zoom Lens
Adjustable focusing speeds and advanced Dual Pixel CMOS AF give fast and precise focusing. Use the ultrabright 3.5" LCD to set focus by touching the AF point required. Face Detection AF and Face Tracking are available, while Manual Focus is set via the focus/zoom ring.
XF-AVC and MP4 for Flexible Recording
Choose from XF-AVC or MP4 recording formats. Record XF-AVC UHD 4K 160 Mb/s at 30P and Full HD 45 Mb/s at 60p/60i and 30/24p. For smaller files, record MP4 in 4K 150 Mb/s at 30/24p and Full HD 35 Mb/s or 17 Mb/s at 60/30/24p.
Professional Input and Output
Output options include HDMI, 3G-SDI, simultaneous backup and relay recording via dual SD cards, and Infrared mode. Record 5x slow motion in Full HD or fast motion in 4K/Full HD up to 1200x. Color match with other Canon cameras using the custom picture menu.
Professional Audio Options
Two XLR terminals on a detachable handle plus 4-channel linear PCM bring pro audio options.

Canon XA75 Reviews

Underrated Camera

By Kyle
Rated 4 out of 5

This camera is a perfect run and gun camera. Love the mic mount, love the handle, the zoom is fantastic, the stabilization is AMAZING, and the image quality is also fantastic. The menu is very simple, and it’s a very easy to use camera. I wouldn’t use it for anything super cinematic, but great for interviews, great for YouTube, documenting, travel, home videos, etc… the downsides of this camera is the lack of customization, and the AWB isn’t that great compared to every other camera I own. Other than that, you’re getting a pretty good bang for your buck.

Has anyone seen if the XA75 has time limits for MP4 recording before splitting the file? (Like previous generations of Canon do)
Asked by: Dustin
A video recording will only be saved as separate clips in the following cases: 1. When the camcorder switches to the other SD card while recording video due to the relay recording function. 2. When recording clips on SDHC cards, the video (stream) file in the clip will be split approximately every 4 GB. Playback with the camera will be seamless.
