ASUS Z790-A WIFI Overview

Lay the foundation of your next build with the robust ASUS PRIME Z790-A WIFI LGA 1700 ATX Motherboard. Designed as a jack-of-all-trades motherboard, the PRIME can perform a wide range of tasks from running your favorite games to editing videos and photos with ease.

At the heart of the PRIME is an LGA 1700 socket and Z790 chipset, allowing you to leverage a wide range of 12th and 13th Gen Intel processors. Four DDR5 Dual-Channel RAM slots allow you to install up to 128GB of memory for enhanced multitasking capabilities and complex photo and video rendering. Four SATA III and four M.2 storage interfaces are available so you can build a large library of storage drives for your games or creative projects. A single PCIe 5.0 x16 slot is available for resource-demanding graphics cards while one PCIe 4.0 x16 (in x4 mode) and two PCIe 3.0 x1 slots support a wide range of utility cards. A range of USB 2.0, 3.2 Gen 1, Gen 2, and Gen 2x2 back panel ports and internal headers provide you with plenty of support for peripherals from low-powered equipment like mice, keyboards, and controllers to resource-demanding devices like external drives and storage arrays or use Bluetooth 5.2 technology for a cable-free experience. Connect to your wireless network with Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax) or use the integrated 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet port if you prefer a wired connection.

AI Equipped
Leveraging Artificial Intelligence, the PRIME can boost performance with automatic AI overclocking and cooling, enhancing your games and productivity without compromising thermal capabilities. Two-way AI noise cancellation is an audio-focused utility used to reduce background sound, ensuring others can hear you clearer when engaging in team-focused titles or delivering presentations remotely.
Enhanced Power Solution
Equipped with a 16+1 DrMOS, ProCool sockets, alloy chokes, and durable capacitors, the PRIME delivers stable power delivery throughout the entire motherboard, maintaining electrical volume whether you are performing simple tasks or operating at full power during resource-demanding processes.
Comprehensive Cooling
To ensure your system remains cool under heavy loads, the PRIME motherboard incorporates a large VRM heatsink for capacitors and chokes as well as integrated M.2 heatsinks and backplates for better thermal performance that prevents throttling. Hybrid fan headers and Fan Xpert 4 software control fans and liquid cooling elements for enhanced cooling that can be modified to your preference.
Connectivity
Between the backplate and the internal headers, the PRIME offers robust connectivity suitable for your peripherals. USB-A and USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 and Gen 2 ports deliver up to 5 and 10 Gb/s data transfer speeds, respectively, suitable for webcams, mics, and external storage drives. A USB-C 3.2 Gen 2x2 port gives you up to 20 Gb/s data transfer speed for resource-demanding devices such as storage arrays and audio interfaces. You can expand your connectivity with an internal Thunderbolt 4 header, allowing you to utilize high-speed connectivity that supports fast transfer speeds and Power Delivery technologies.
Additional Enhancements
Several on-board enhancements help with the installation process while also providing additional support for the long-term with PCIe Slot Q-Release, M.2 Q-Latch, Q-LED Core, and SafeSlot.
