Your Ticket to Cinema Mastery
Leveraging the power of a newly-developed APS-C sensor, the Sony FX30 provides everyday content creators and aspiring filmmakers with a powerful, yet accessible cinema camera with which to push their cinematic journey to new heights. It blends an imaging pipeline designed for cinematic capture with a comprehensive feature set and intuitive operation to create a complete system for all levels of filmmaking.
Cinematic Expression
26MP APS-C/Super 35mm Exmor R BSI CMOS Sensor
The FX30's advanced imaging system is on par with other options in Sony's Cinema Line—capturing detailed 10-bit UHD 4K imagery at up to 120 fps—giving it specs fitting a true cinema camera. The newly-developed 26MP APS-C Exmor R CMOS sensor and BIONZ XR processor are able to create high-quality 4K images with the Super 35mm (16:9) area. This system is capable of capturing 14+ stops of dynamic range and benefits from Dual Base ISO architecture to improve low-light performance.
  • High-sensitivity recording at up to ISO 32000 and Dual Base ISO (800/2500).
  • When using S-Log3, the FX30 can capture 14+ stops of dynamic range.
  • Record in 10-bit 4:2:2 using advanced XAVC HS and XAVC S-I formats.
  • Full pixel readout from the 6K sensor creates high-quality UHD 4K video at up to 60 fps.
  • High-speed shooting is possible in 4K at up to 120 fps with a 1.6x crop and in Full HD up to 240 fps.
  • The HDMI output supports 16-bit raw video to select, separately available recorders.
Professional Picture Control
Filmmakers will be able to capture images that are immediately ready to publish for projects with fast turnarounds or opt for maximum quality and flexibility in post thanks to a wide array of picture control options:
  • S-Cinetone uses the same color science as Sony's advanced cinema cameras, including the VENICE line, with natural midtones, soft colors, and smooth highlight roll-off.
  • Picture Profiles, such as S-Log3 and HLG, will capture images with expanded dynamic range and flexibility for editors.
  • Creative Looks can be baked into the recorded footage to create a specific mood during recording and minimize the need for editing.
  • Up to 16 user-created LUTs and three presets can be set for accurately monitoring footage or previewing a specific look during shooting. These can be applied to the camera's monitor or EVF as well as the HDMI output.
Operation for All Levels
Professional features will help ensure beginners to professionals can make the most of the FX30. This includes three log shooting modes:
  • Flexible ISO uses standard ISO settings for simple operation and the greatest flexibility.
  • Cine EI ensures maximum dynamic range capture by recording at a manually selected base ISO setting and applying adjustments to metadata for monitoring and post-production.
  • Cine EI quick will automatically switch between the two base ISO settings for easier operation and great quality.
  • Intuitive Operation and Controls
    Fast Hybrid AF
Enjoy high-speed and highly accurate autofocus performance in every mode, including 4K up to 120 fps, using an advanced Fast Hybrid AF system that uses 495 points (759 points in Photo mode) spread across 90% of the image sensor.
    • Real-time Eye AF and Real-time Tracking will track the eyes of humans and animals.
    • AF Assist function will automatically switch to manual focus with a turn of the lens' focus ring.
    • Focus Map makes it easier to visualize the region of focus in your scene
    5-Axis In-Body Image Stabilization
Sony has equipped the FX30 with a 5-axis in-body image stabilization system that will help create smooth imagery even when working handheld. An Active Mode is available that blends optical systems with digital optimizations to capture ultra-smooth footage. The FX30 can also record gyro movement when the optical stabilizers are turned off, which can be used in post to create a stable shot.
    Comprehensive Feature Set
Plenty of Sony's cinema features have found their way into the FX30:
    • Breathing compensation works with select lenses in 4K up to 60p in camera or up to 120p using Catalyst software after recording.
    • Timecode sync input with optional VMC-BNCM1 Timecode Adapter Cable
    • Tally lights for an easy indication that the camera is recording.
    Catalyst Browse and Prepare Integration
The FX30 records a comprehensive array of metadata that can be read and used for advanced post-production work using Sony's Catalyst Browse and Prepare software.

    A Plethora of Connectivity Options
The FX30 is equipped with a wide array of connections to ensure maximum customization and flexibility on set:
    • Full-size HDMI output features clean output up to 4K 60p as well as 16-bit raw video.
    • Audio is supported on the body with a 3.5mm headphone output and a 3.5mm microphone input.
    • USB-C connection can be used for high-speed data transfer or for powering the camera.
    • Multi-Terminal (Micro-USB) supports various accessories, such as remotes, for expanded functionality.
    • Timecode sync is available through the use of the separately available VMC-BNCM1 Timecode Adapter Cable.
    • Multi Interface Shoe supports advanced accessories, including the included XLR Handle Unit.
    Media Options
For recording high-bitrate footage at high frame rates the FX30 uses an advanced, versatile set of media slots. The camera features dual CFexpress Type A/SD card slots, allowing users to select between different media types for different situations. Advanced Audio Recording
This version comes with a detachable XLR Handle Unit that offers two XLR/TRS combo inputs for using professional audio equipment. The handle features a microphone mount, physical audio controls, and three 1/4"-20 threads for attaching accessories. Sony E 10-20mm f/4 PZ G Lens
    Lightweight, Ultra-Wide, Power Zoom
A lens built with the hybrid shooter in mind, the Sony E 10-20mm f/4 PZ G is a lightweight and versatile ultra-wide-angle APS-C zoom ideally suited for vlogging and content creation needs. Featuring Power Zoom, intuitive handling, and advanced optics, this portable go-to lens excels at daily shooting applications and the updated autofocus performance also brings it up to speed for stunning video production capabilities.
    Optimized for Video and Vlogging
Built with vlogging in mind, this lens's key attributes relate to video recording performance, ease of use, and a highly versatile design:
    • Electronically controlled internal Power Zoom mechanism enables making smooth zooms during takes, with control possible via the lens body, using either the zoom lever or the zoom ring, or from select camera bodies.
    • Internal zoom and internal focus design maintains the overall lens length during operation and also helps to reduce any shifts to the lens's center of gravity for better performance when mounted to a handheld gimbal.
    • Linear AF system is especially quiet and smooth and also supports Linear Response MF for natural manual focusing control.
    • Smooth Motion Optics (SMO) suppresses focus breathing to help maintain compositional accuracy when changing focus. This lens is also compatible with the Breathing Compensation function in select Alpha cameras.
    G Series Optics
Ultra-wide-angle zoom offers a versatile 15-30mm equivalent focal length range, striking an ideal balance between being wide enough for handheld, selfie style vlogging and narrow enough for natural, everyday recording. Also, the constant f/4 maximum aperture offers consistency throughout the zoom range and marries brightness with a compact design.
    • Three aspherical elements help achieve high sharpness and suppress distortion and spherical aberrations.
    • Two ED elements promote greater clarity and color accuracy by reducing chromatic aberrations.
    • One ED Aspherical element further contributes to impressive image quality by correcting for a variety of aberrations.
    • Circular diaphragm contributes a smooth and natural bokeh quality.
    Refined Focusing Performance
Linear Motor system uses two separate motors to provide quick, quiet, and precise autofocus and tracking performance. This design also contributes to more natural, intuitive Linear Response manual focus control and an AF/MF switch is located on the lens barrel for quick focus mode switching.
    • Internal focusing design offers more responsive focusing performance and maintains a consistent overall lens length during operation.
    • Suitable for close-up shooting, the minimum focusing distance at the 10mm position is 5.1" and, at the 20mm position, is 6.7" with a 0.18x maximum magnification; both of these close-up distances are only possible with manual focus. When using autofocus, the minimum focusing distance is 7.9" with a 0.14x maximum magnification.
    Lightweight Design, Intuitive Handling
This 10-20mm f/4 prioritizes compactness and sports a lightweight design while still managing impressive optical performance and notable f/4 constant maximum aperture. The lens is also weather-sealed and has an intuitive design for easy operability, making it a versatile wide-angle go-to lens for hybrid shooters and content creators.
    • Impressively lightweight design weighs 6.3 oz and the sleek design measures 2.2" long; making this lens ideal for everyday handheld use and travel applications.
    • Dust- and moisture-resistant design suits working in inclement conditions.
    • Both an integrated Power Zoom lever on lens barrel and a dedicated zoom ring can be used for simple focal length adjustment. When used on select Sony cameras, Power Zoom can also be used via on-camera controls.
    • With select Alpha cameras, the zoom ring rotation direction can also be adjusted.
    • Remote zoom control is also possible via the optional GP-VPT2BT Wireless Shooting Grip or from a linked smartphone.

    Sony FX30 E Mount Reviews

    Phenomenal Camera!

    By Daniel
    Rated 5 out of 5
    Date: 2026-05-25

I’ve had the FX30 since December of 2024 and it’s been amazing. I’m primarily a corporate and event videographer and this camera delivers on everything I need. Pros: 1. Dynamic range is great. The shadows have a lot of depth and I feel confident that I can correct most shots if I’m ever under or overexposed. 2. Sharpness: With the over sampling from the 6K sensor you get a very sharp image. It’s perfect for cropping in post when you need to reframe for social media. 3. Body: This body is identical to the fx3 and it’s perfect for the video focused shooter. All the buttons are easily within reach & responsive. You can shoot with confidence knowing you’re recording because you have so many indicators that you’re recording. 4. Autofocus: It’s extremely accurate and I love the different modes. I use the zone mode when I need everything to be in focus 5. Built in fan: Overheating is a thing of the past. I love that I don’t have to think about managing the heat like on my a7iV. 6. Codec: This isn’t the most interesting feature but it’s very helpful practically. The h.265 codec is the perfect mixture of size and quality. It condenses the file small enough to shoot for long hours but doesn’t make your footage feel muddy. Cons: 1. False color: Exposure tools are a huge necessity on cameras but especially professional cinema cameras. These cameras should have false color built in. It’s the best exposure tool to determine skin tone. 2. Variable frame rates: I’d like to be able to shoot at more frame rates than just 24/30/60/120. 48FPS would be great. But that’s just me.

Not only is the camera top-notch, Sony's Creators' App turns out to be surprisingly useful for remotely activating the camera and importing the images.

How can you use AC power with this camera? I need to plug it in for long recording times (i know it has a 30 minute clip length limit), so need to plug it into the wall. Is it possible to do this, and if so, what accessory is necessary?
    Asked by: stefanos
From personal experience: First, as mentioned in another response, the maximum clip length of this camera is 13 hours. The camera can be powered through its USB-C port - as long as it also has a battery inserted in the camera at the same time. The USB power can come from a wall plug or a computer's USB-C port - such as if you wanted to use it as a webcam or for livestreaming, or you can use a power bank such as: Belkin BoostCharge Pro 3-Port Laptop Power Bank (20,000mAh, Black) BH # BEBPB020BTBK MFR # BPB020TTBK This power bank gives you about ten hours of power. If the camera will be used for more than 2 hours - about the time you get from an internal battery, it's definitely a good idea to get a power bank, as then you can forget about power and having to change batteries. By the way, if you unplug the USB cable by mistake (which happens – or to lend it to someone), it will automatically switch dynamically to the internal battery. That means that even in middle of recording, it continues without a hitch. It switches dynamically regardless of the USB cable power source (bank, wall or computer). Of course, the same goes for plugging in the USB cable – it switches dynamically from internal battery to USB power. (I’m not sure if the internal battery needs to have some charge left for this to work, but it’s certainly a good idea, as mentioned.) For a tripod, get a Velcro holder pouch for the bank - such as: Ruggard MS-100 Equipment Mounting Strap BH # RUMS100 MFR # MS-100 Ideally, Velcro it onto the handle, so that whichever way you pan the head, it will not tangle around the neck. There are also dummy batteries, as hectorm mentioned, with cables to connect various batteries and power sources – ideal perhaps if you already have some older battery type and/or perhaps if you need to use the USB-C port for something else. Under accessories, see ‘Battery Plates’ and ‘Power Cable Adapters’.

Would you need a special converter to use hdmi for live streaming?
    Asked by: Dan
The Sony FX30 Digital Cinema Camera (B&H# SOFX30) will output video for livestreaming through its HDMI port, and yes, that would require an HDMI capture device. However, if you will accept a lower resolution option, it can also be used for livestreaming through the USB C port to a computer.

    Asked by: Charlie
The Sony FX30 Digital Cinema Camera with XLR Handle Unit (B&H# SOFX30XLR) does offer Sony's Clear Image Zoom feature to electronically both crop in on and enhance the view if one wants to use significantly less than the full pixel width of the sensor. Otherwise, 4K video recording will be downsampled from 6K pixels except in 4K 120p mode.
