Meike MK-EFTZ-B Reviews
Absolutely does not work
When I first tried it, I kept getting error messages to turn the camera off and back on. Every time, every old lens. So I read the other review here and tried to figure out how to upgrade the firmware. I can't tell if the firmware upgrade worked or not. The version.txt text file is in Chinese, and running it through an online translator produces a mild insult in English, rather than a version number! But I did try it again after that, and now it works, but it won't focus, and the resulting photo has a huge vignette, like taking a cell phone photo through a telescope (circular image with black corners). I sent a message to Meike via their website and via email, and got no response from either. This product appears to be useless, as does the company itself.
It works!
I am one of the unfortunate gearheads and I maintain different platforms. Nikon and Olympus mainly, but also some Canon on the side. When I started migrating to the Z mount through the Z5, I realized that I could use my Canon lenses for the first time on a Nikon body, as the flange distance of the F mount didn't allow for this. Looking at the adapter options I came across this Meike and having used their EF to EF-M adapter with decent results I gave it a go. Initial results with the Z5 / 24-105 4 L IS combo where mixed. While AF worked, it was not repeatedly accurate. Focusing manually was not a problem and every aid function worked as it should. So I put the adapter on the side as another half successful purchase. After moving to the Z9, I thought to try it again hoping for improved performance thanks to the superior AF system of the Z9. Unfortunately, things got worse because after any shutter release there was a connection error message. I decided to contact Meike to inform about the issue and ask for solutions. After a couple of emails they sent me a wetransfer of the latest firmware (not on their site for some reason) and a video showing the (easy) update process. What a change! After the update both the 24-105 4 L IS and a 70-200 2.8 L IS II just work. AF is accurate and repeatable just like on my R6 (though slightly slower but definitely usable). A peculiarity of the adapter/body communication is that IBIS works even when the lens IS is off. Actually turning both on makes (to my experience) the situation worse inducing viewfinder jittering. So, overall, as things stand now for me at least these 2 canon lenses work quite acceptably on the Z9.
