This WA-47 Large-Diaphragm Tube Condenser Microphone Kit with WA12 MkII Preamp and Cable from B&H includes a professional-quality, single-channel mic preamp and 15' high-end XLR cable to ensure you get outstanding results from this versatile, multi-pattern tube mic. The WA12 MkII provides you with a high-headroom, low-noise-floor preamp, featuring 71 dB of gain and tone-coloring options, while the durable, gold-plated cable is wired to reject RFI and EMI and ensure pristine audio quality.
The Warm Audio WA-47 is a large-diaphragm tube condenser microphone designed to provide the tonal characteristics of classic U47 microphones for vocalists, musicians, and recording engineers in home, project, and commercial recording studios. Thanks to nine polar patterns—cardioid, omnidirectional, figure-8, and six intermediate patterns—selectable from the included external power supply, its versatility allows it to excel at anything from close-up vocals to distant room sounds.
The K47-style capsule reproduction features dual gold-sputtered, 6-micron Mylar diaphragms with a single backplate. Tone-enhancing components, including a JJ 5751 vacuum tube, TAB-Funkenwerk (AMI) output transformer, and WIMA, Solen, and polystyrene capacitors, have been carefully selected to impart vintage-flavored tone characterized by a smooth, uncompressed high end and strong, warm low frequencies. Even the 7-pin cable, manufactured by Gotham Audio in Switzerland, rises to meet the demands of uncompromised audio production. It ensures the integrity of high frequencies and minimizes phase shift between the microphone and the power supply. The WA-47 ships with a wood box and a shockmount, which reduces rumble and decouples it from problematic vibrations.Handle all of your single-channel audio recording needs with the black Warm Audio WA12 MkII, a preampliflier for professionals on a budget. This is a discrete, dual-transformer, high voltage mic pre that offers high headroom, a low noise floor, and sonics designed to impart a larger-than-life quality.
Based around an X731 opamp derived from the Melcor 1731, the pre offers a sound that can be warm or clean, saturated or transparent, depending on how hard you drive it. Drive it softly or hard, it won't change the essential sonorous quality of the unit.
It's also customizable for the DIY crowd: Because the unit was designed around the X731 opamp, the pre can accept any discrete opamp on the market that conforms to the 16V, 2520 pinout standard. In addition to the opamps, the WA12 MkII employs CineMag USA transformers, as well as other components that allow it to compete with units far more costly.
This preamp offers XLR and 1/4" connections for mic level, line level, or Hi-Z instruments. You'll also have your choice of XLR or 1/4" TRS outputs. A pad switch is on hand, as are a polarity switch and a button to supply 48V phantom power to condenser mics. A tone control lets you change the impedance from 600 to 150 ohms, which will have an effect on the sound.
- Utilizes premium grade input and output USA CineMag transformers
- 71 dB of gain, fully discrete signal path
- Can be replaced with other 6-pin 2520-foot print opamps for varying tone/flavor
- Tone button switches the input impedance from 600 ohms to 150 ohms, changing the tone of both the microphone and Hi-Z inputs
- 2-megohm Hi-Z input on front panel, sends instrument signal through entire circuit including both Cinemag transformers and the discrete opamp
- Suitable for guitars, bass, keyboards, and other instruments that have a 1/4" output jack
- Output attenuation control (after the CineMag output transformer) allows for driving the preamp and transformers into saturation
- LED meter gain indication
- External power plug
Presented here with a cable length of 15'', this Warm Audio Premier Series XLR Cable is designed to provide a high-end connection between balanced gear with XLR jacks, such as microphones, outboard equipment, and interface-to-monitoring connections. If you care about the details of your sound onstage and in the studio, use this cable to preserve your signal.
This XLR cable is chock-full of features that enable a top-of-the-line performance, such as gold-plated connectors and a star-quad wiring scheme for superior RFI rejection in the balancing process. Double-Ruessen shielding helps protect against EMI, and a braided outer wrap fights against tangling. To guarantee an optimal performance, Warm Audio partnered with Gotham AG, one of Switzerland's best producers of premium cable.
Star-quad construction takes that concept even further by using five cores instead of three. Two cores are provided each for the positive and negative legs, as well as a single ground. This helps to further shield the audio from RFI (radio frequency interference), ensuring an even better performance.
