Audio engineers and music producers in search of a compressor/limiter inspired by the sound of Abby Road Studios will be thrilled with the Chandler Limited RS660 Compressor, a handmade, 2 RU dynamics processor that's based on the historic EMI RS125 and Fairchild 660 compressors used at EMI's Abby Road Studio during the 1960s.
The RS660 excels at taming an array of dynamic sources from sensitive vocals to explosive drums and is at home alongside the historic units from which it was hewn and adds to the modern engineer's cache of analog signal processors. The unit is built around the 6386 vacuum tube and is meticulously tuned for sound. There are controls for input, output, and time constant, while the switchable modes include THD, Comp, and Limit. The rear of the unit sports a transformer-balanced XLR input and output with a 1/4" link connector for use with another RS660 for stereo operation.
