Pacific Image PowerFilm Plus Reviews

Already trouble out of the box

Its a cute scanner but I finished 2 rolls and its already stopped working which leaves me disappointed. Its already squeaking and will not feed negatives anymore. Maybe this specific scanner I have is defective. I will try calling Pacific Image support. Anyway, crazy that a $500 scanner is already having issues at the jump. I would proceed with caution.

Okay but has issues

I've had a chance now to scan dozens of rolls of film and I'm disappointed with this scanner. I got it for the straightforward software and hopes that I could set up a roll start scanning and return when its finished. It cannot do that. The first issue I have is that I cannot get the scanner to batch feed multiple sections of film into the scanner. Even with the flattest negatives, eventually it will feed two sections of negatives in at the same time one stacked on top of the other. Even an uncut roll of film will scan two 6 picture sections and then the software hangs up and and you must cancel the process. And when you cancel the process, no pictures are saved even those that have already been scanned. Finally, the color is terrible. Even pictures of essentially the same view, on the same section of negatives, can have drastically different looks due to different settings. There are adjustments that can be made but they apply to all pictures in the section. I will say that although the automatic feed doesn't seem to work, I was impressed when I fed the negatives in manually. Even curled negatives, sometimes severely, could be fed in. And you can 'continuously' feed sections of negatives. Once the current section of negatives get to about the second to last image, start the next section and it takes it fine. I'll keep it for the purpose of archiving the hundreds of roll of film I have to do but I don't think I would ever use the scanned images to make quality prints from.

will this device scan 35 mm Slides?

will this device scan 35 mm Slides?
Asked by: William
No, the Pacific Image PowerFilm Plus Scanner is designed to scan film strips, not slides. The Pacific Image PowerSlide X Plus Scanner (B&H # PAPSXPS) will allow for 35mm slides to be scanned one by one.
