Sirui ADP125X Reviews

Very good optically, but has problems that can be overcome

I bought this adapter to explore panoramic formats for still photography. After a problematic start, the adapter works well and will do nicely. I like the shapes of the images I get while using the adapter. I did encounter two problems which can lead to equipment damage. First, the ring that controls the direction of flare and squeeze, the one with the red button, was extremely stiff. Moving the ring while the red button was pushed either tightened the adapter onto the lens or loosened it such that the it came loose. I needed to exercise the ring by rotating it while the button was pushed, and have put in about 1 hour of time on this to get the ring rotating easily if not smoothly. The ring now rotates as expected. I will probable exercise the ring before every use. Caution: If doing this, remove the adapter from any lens to prevent damage. Put the rear cover on, push and hold the red button, and start rotating the rear cover. Second, as reported by other reviewers, the protruding tabs at the back of the adapter will scratch whatever they come into contact with. In my case an 82-52mm step down ring was too close to the adapter tabs, generated friction and prevented the flare-control ring from rotating smoothly, to such an extent that the anodizing on the tabs has been removed and the step-down ring was scratched. Fortunately, I did not damage a lens. One solution is to use multiple step-down rings to move the back of the adapter far enough away from a lens to avoid damage. Always check for the potential to cause damage by using a filter attached to your lens before trying the adapter. So, a disappointing start, but hopefully no damage done to my adapter. For my intents and purposes, I rate the adapter 5 stars for photographic quality, but only 2 stars for the lack of warning about physical damage. Sirui should make it clear about the possibility of damage with this adapter, and present some solutions.

I own all the Sirui 1.33 series anamorphic’s in Sony E mount (24,35,50,75mm APSC) and was looking for a commensurate solution for my Blackmagic pocket 6K Pro. Not only does the adapter work perfectly with my adapted vintage Nikon glass (28, 35, 50, 85mm AI-S series) but also works perfectly from 24-35mm on the amazing Sigma 18-35, and from 70-135 on the super sharp Canon 70-200. A very cost effective solution with impressive results.

How well would this work with Rokinon cine lenses (EF) on a BMPCC 6k?
Asked by: David
The Sirui 1.25x Anamorphic Adapter can work with lenses up to 85mm Front Diameter Lenses. Depending on the Rokinon lens you are working with it should have a 77 or 72mm front thread that you can connect to. Using the included step rings should allow you to attach the Sirui 1.25x Anamorphic Adapter to your lens. The adapter includes the following step rings. 92mm Step-Up Ring 67mm Step-Down Ring 72mm Step-Down Ring* 77mm Step-Down Ring*

Can a step up ring be used to use the adapter on ...

Can a step up ring be used to use the adapter on a lens with a filter diameter much smaller than 82mm, like a lens with a 49 or 55mm filter diameter? Would it be fine to use one step up ring or should multiple be used? Will this affect the anamorphic effect at all?
Asked by: Andres
I used a single 82-52 step down and it did not work as the rear of the adapter contacted the step down ring and damaged both. Use multiple steps to ensure the rear of the adapter will not engage with the rings or with the lens surface.

Will this work for a Sirui 24mm/F2.8 anamorphic w 1.33x squeeze on a Fuji X mount, or will it vignette? Thanks!
Asked by: TimG
The Sirui 1.25x Anamorphic Adapter comes with a 72mm adapter ring that will connect with Sirui 24mm f/2.8 Anamorphic 1.33x Lens (X Mount). It should work and not vignette. However, we have not tested this adapter lens combination.
