The UV Filter Kit for Nikon from Kase includes a protective UV filter with a built-in magnetic adapter ring designed specifically for the NIKKOR Z 800mm f/6.3 VR S Lens. The magnetic adapter of the UV filter allows other filters to be quickly attached to or exchanged from the front of a lens much more quickly than using traditional threaded filters. Each filter is made of Schott B270 super-white glass and features multicoating for optimal light transmission and to reduce potential lens flare and glare. In addition, the glass surfaces feature a water-resistant coating that reduces adhesion from oil, grease, and water droplets for easy cleaning and also resists potential scratching and minor abrasions.

The UV Filter Kit for Nikon from Kase includes a protective UV filter with a built-in magnetic adapter ring designed specifically for the NIKKOR Z 800mm f/6.3 VR S Lens. The magnetic adapter of the UV filter allows other filters to be quickly attached to or exchanged from the front of a lens much more quickly than using traditional threaded filters. Each filter is made of Schott B270 super-white glass and features multicoating for optimal light transmission and to reduce potential lens flare and glare. Hate the exposed front glass on my long telephotos so this is a great concept. BUT no cap :( For the price point I was hoping as a kit this would have came with the Lens cap (which Kase also makes)

Does the UV filter screw into the adapter or is it attached magnetically? If it's magnetic, how secure is it?

The UV filter in the Kase UV Filter Kit for Nikon NIKKOR Z 800mm f/6.3 VR S Lens magnetically attaches to the adapter. A magnetically attached filter is not as secure as a screw-on filter; however, they generally are secure enough for most uses.

What are the optical properties of this filter? I don't see it listed on Kase website.

The optical properties are the same as their 77mm UV filter listed here: https://bhpho.to/3HoB81m The most important thing about this filter is it is the first and only front mount filter for an 800mm lens. Previously there were never any UV protection options for an 800mm prime lens.

How does this filter attach to the z 400mm f/2.8 TC VR S lens since that lens is not 'threaded'?

The Kase UV Filter Kit for Nikon NIKKOR Z 400mm f/2.8 TC VR S Lens comes with an adapter that has screws on it. As you tighten the screws the adapter by pressure stays attached to the front of the lens.
