Gura Gear Commuter Reviews

The best travel backpack I've ever had (and I've had too many of them)

Anyone coming to this page has probably researched (and had) a good amount of photo bags/backpacks over the years. This was definitely the case for me. I find that travel/commuter photo backpacks (i.e. the ~20L ones) are hardest to get right. There's a lot of compromises that need to be made. Many of the ones I had over the years left many things to be desired. E.g. Wandrd Prvke 21l was not rigid enough for me and it the camera cube was way too small. Peak Design backpacks had too many quirks or the gear was hard to access at times. Lowepro backpacks felt outdated these days. Many other brands failed in one way or another. For my next trip, I started looking at something which could still be labeled a "personal travel item" and could fit more efficiently. First and foremost, I could finally pack a lot of gear for the size of the backpack. This includes GFX 50s II, which fits just fine, unlike many other similarly sized bags. I would go as far as saying it could fit two medium-sized mirrorless bodies and 4-5 lenses. Secondly, the additional space at the top of the gear compartment lets to pack some snacks and a small jacket. Or a drone (DJI Air 3 fits there just fine). This is where most compromises are made in this category. I feel that Gura Gear nailed it here and provided just the right amount of space there. Thirdly, the backpack has a lot of thought put into it. The shoulder straps are fixed directly to the upper part of the main backpack body, rather than the removable lower compartment (good!). There's plenty of magnets and fidlock really works great. I love how rigid it is and that it can easily stand on the ground. If there's anything I would change, then it would be adding a hidden documents compartment (just like the one Wandrd Prvke has) and maybe removing some of the internal (sewed) pockets, which I consider pointless. Also, I would prefer another water/tripod side pocket rather side access. The fit when fully loaded is just OK, seems that other brands do it bit better. Overall, this is probably the best travel photo gear backpack in ~20 litre capacity category. I would consider it bit overpriced at the original price, but when it's on sale, it's a great choice. Thank you Gura Gear!

Great

One excellent bag. All one would expect from a premium bag, solid zippers, padded shoulder straps, etc. But, the roll-top is a great feature for variable contents (like a rain jacket) and you have to try the mag fasteners. They will be on all webbing in 10 years. Just Great!!

Will the camera section fit a 28-70 attached to an R5 with a MacBook Pro in the laptop sleeve?
Asked by: Anton
The main compartment is 11 x 11 x 4" / 27.9 x 27.9 x 10.2 cm (Main Compartment) so it would fit the 28-70 and R5 and it will allow for up to a 16" Laptop or 11" Tablet.

Will this fit a R5 attached to 70-200, 100-500 and a 24-70? Can you add a waist strap
Asked by: Michael
Regarding the Gura Gear Kiboko City Commuter Backpack (Forest Green, 18L+), it is possible to fit a Canon R5 attached to a 70-200mm lens, a 100-500mm lens, and a 24-70mm lens, but it would be a very tight fit and you would likely need to plan carefully which items stay mounted and how you configure the dividers. Yes, you can add a waist strap; Gura Gear offers a Kiboko City Commuter Waist Strap as an optional accessory.

Asked by: Karin
Unfortunately, the Canon RF 100-300mm f/2.8 L IS USM Lens does not fit in the Gura Gear Kiboko City Commuter Backpack (Slate Gray, 18L+). This bag is separated into two different compartments and it won't accept such a long lens.
