Leofoto MPQ-404C Overview

The MPQ-404C 4-Section Carbon Fiber Monopod from Leofoto extends to a maximum height of 70.9" by disengaging the ordinary locks with a simple turn. The Leofoto MPQ-404C features an updated waterproof leg locking system.
Waterproof and slip-proof material for added stability and safe handling, especially for users with gloves.
The rotating wrist strip adds support and security when carrying.
10-layer carbon fiber leg tubes include cross-rhombus construction for increased strength, stability, and vibration dampening.
The monopod ships with a case.
Snowcapped mountain pattern tubes cloak the monopod.

I could tell when I received it that it was quality, the packaging said something. So far the Leofoto MPQ-404C monopod has been a dream in the field. I have been using it here in the cold to photograph wildlife and birds during snowfalls. I got the 4 section monopod for quick and easy set up when I'm walking in the outdoors. I have the monopod topped with a leveling base and a quick release clamp, along with my mirrorless camera and 500mm f4 lens. This carbon fiber monopod is lighter than my old one and is so much easier to operate in the outdoors. My old aluminum monopod had lever locks that got snagged on brush and sticks. The new monopod has twist locks that cannot snag on anything and they're so easy to use, just a quick twist and that section is locked, solid. It's also fast to set up, I can be ready for a shot in seconds. Also, the twist locks are waterproof so I didn't worry about it when I got it all wet and snowy. The thickness of the top section feels great in my hands. It works flawlessly and it makes walking around with a heavy camera and lens setup so much nicer. I can tell it's going to last a long time. I would recommend to anyone looking for a quality monopod that can handle weight and still be light, smooth and fast in the field.

Found this to be an excellent strong 4 section monopod that can be raised to a tall height for a tall man or be used on a slope for a shorter man. I only have to really used 3 sections extended with my height of 5'10. I wish Leofoto would make monopods with optional built-in Arca-Swiss compatible clamps. I first saw this monopod reviewed by Scott Keys.

What is updated sand? '...features updated sand with a waterproof leg locking system.' Is it supposed to be sand resistance?

The Leofoto MPQ-404C 4-Section Carbon Fiber Monopod with Case is waterproof, but they make no claims about it being sandproof.

Does the monopod come with a 3/8/1/4 screw and a spike?

The mounting screw on the Leofoto MPQ-404C 4-Section Carbon Fiber Monopod with Case is convertible for 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 compatibility. However, it does not include a spike.
