Ewa-Marine CD5 overview

  • 1Description

This 5-pack of Ewa-Marine CD-5 Reusable Camera Dry Silica Gel Desiccant will help prevent condensation from forming inside a housing. Condensation will form in a housing when you take it from warm air to cooler water. Internal camera flashes being fired inside the housing will compound this problem.

Since the silica needs some time to act, give it about 10-15 minutes after closing the housing before entering the water. The CD5 is blue in color. Once saturated with moisture, it turns red. CD5 can then be reactivated by drying in the sun or in an oven. This process can be repeated up to five times.

Ewa-Marine CD5 reviews

CD5 Reusable Camera Dry Silica Gel Desiccant (5-Pack) is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 19.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works fine Used them for my Fantasea FP-5000 U/W housing and it did what it was supposed to do. Preventing condensation is quite important in the conditions the camera will be used whether the housing is left under the sun, or if the LCD generates heat will being in colder water, or simply if the region you are in is very damp. (PS, if you're out of silica packs, you can try using tampons...)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does what it says I use these in my underwater camera housing. They are a good size for my ikelite housing, and prevent any condensation. They can be recharged by heating in a oven or with a hair dryer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally a fog-free housing! I use an Ikelite housing and a Canon HD video camera to shoot marine life in Hawaii where I live and other locales on vacations. After 20 minutes of use, the heat of the camera has been fogging the lens and making filming impossible. With just one Ewa Marine pack, the problem has been solved. When the silca turns pink, put it in the oven to recharge. They are small, effective, reusable and inexpensive.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Working like it said it would I use this product after a few hours being outside. The transition from cold to a warm room only calls for condensation in or around the lens which isn't wanted...These silica packets prevents all of this and thats why it's so great. I cant find any flaws with this packet because it does have a color change when it needs to be restarted or replaced.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good to have on hand These silica packs are good to have on hand. They're used to prevent any condensation from forming inside of the EWA housings where your valuable camera is, so I'd rather not take any chances when it comes to moisture around my electronics. It's nice that they're rechargeable, too.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Keep your housing fog-free Nothing like a little lens fog to ruin underwater photos. Works well and is re-useable. Its a little difficult to tell when the dessicant pack needs to be recharged. I find the price of all dessicant packs steep considering they are thrown in many consumer goods free.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Larger than expected...but... These pads are larger than I expeced, specially when considered that I purchased them to be part of my $100 setup with the ikelite underwater housing. Due to their size, they are somwhat akward to place in housing with the camera installed, but overall great product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed The CD5 is suppose to be blue in color and once saturated with moisture, it turns red. But when I received mine, all the 5 Pack was white in color. Does it means that it cannot be reused? Disappointed with the product. Will not buy again.
