Apple 27" Studio Display (Standard Glass, Tilt Adjustable Stand)

Fully immerse yourself in creativity, entertainment, and more with the 27" Apple Studio Display. With its 27" active viewing area and exceptionally thin bezels that allow you to fully focus on the 5120 x 2880 resolution 5K Retina screen, the Studio Display is designed to elevate your computing experience. Support for 1.07 billion colors and wide P3 color delivers lifelike photos and videos. At the same time, true tone technology uses a built-in ambient light sensor to automatically adjust the color temperature to match your environment. However, the Studio Display doesn't just enhance your creative workflow—it boosts your collaboration and entertainment experiences. Inside is an A13 Bionic chip that powers integrated features such as the 12MP Ultra Wide camera with Center Stage technology to keep you and other video call participants in frame while the studio-quality three-microphone array helps to ensure that everyone is heard with minimal background noise interference. There is also a six-speaker audio system comprised of four woofers and two tweeters that immerses you in music and videos using Dolby Atmos virtual surround sound.

Connect your system through the Thunderbolt 3 port, which delivers up to 96W of power to your MacBook, iPad Pro, iPad Air, and other compatible devices. The rear panel also includes three 10 Gb/s USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C ports that allow you to quickly connect phones, external storage devices, tablets, and other peripherals to your computer through the monitor. Its included stand provides a 30° tilt for optimal viewing.

Design
The Studio Display features a refined all-aluminum chassis with slim borders, housing a stunning 5120 x 2880 resolution 5K Retina screen that provides 218 ppi (pixels per inch) for sharp details.
Finish
The Apple Studio Display is available in two versions: one with a standard glass finish and another with nano-texture glass. Both are engineered for low reflectivity, but the nano-texture finish offers enhanced glare reduction for those who are a bit more sensitive or work under harsh lighting conditions.
True Tone Technology
True Tone technology utilizes an ambient light sensor to measure and adjust the color intensity of the display for accurate colors based on your environment.
Bionic A13 Chip
A powerful Apple Bionic A13 chip drives the display's advanced features, including Center Stage, spatial audio, the directional microphone array, and Apple Siri.
Front 12MP Ultra Wide Camera with Center Stage
An Ultra Wide webcam is built into the display, featuring a 12MP sensor and a 122° field of view, making it suitable for FaceTime and the Center Stage feature.
Center Stage
Center Stage uses the Ultra Wide camera and machine learning to change the way you participate in video calls. As you move around, it automatically pans to keep you centered in the frame. When others join in or leave the call, the view expands or zooms in. Center Stage works with FaceTime and other video conferencing apps for an even more engaging experience.
Six-Speaker Cinematic Sound
Four force-cancelling woofers deliver bold, deep bass with minimum distortion while the two high-performance tweeters provide accurate mids and crisp highs to fully immerse you in audio.
Spatial Audio
Experience movie-theater or concert-hall sound with the Dolby Atmos virtual surround-sound system.
Microphone Array
The studio quality three-microphone array uses directional beamforming so that your voice comes in loud and clear, not your background noise.
Reference Modes
To adapt to the variety of standards that content creators work with in media such as digital cinema (P3-DCI), photography (P3-D65), HDTV video (BT.709-BT.1886), design and print (P3-D50), Internet and web (sRGB), and so on, Reference Modes reconfigure the display to match. It optimizes values like color space, white point, gamma, and brightness. Alternatively, users can also set up their own custom profile as needed.
Tilt Adjustable Stand
This display includes a stand that allows you to adjust the tilt by 30°. Users have the option of purchasing a tilt and height adjustable stand or a VESA adapter for landscape or portrait mode mounting.

    Apple Mac Studio Reviews

It was finally time to upgrade

Previous computer: Mac Pro (Mid 2012) - 2 X 3.46 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon Processors, SSD drives, 64 GB memory, and a Radeon RX 580 8 GB Graphics card. I mention these stats only to say that this is still a reasonably fast and functional computer, but I'm stuck back at MacOS Mojave 10.14.6, so I can't upgrade to the newest versions of many of my most used Apps. Enter the Mac Studio M1 Ultra... Right now I am doing mostly Raw photo processing. I use a Canon R5 45 MP camera and process the Raw files using DxO PhotoLab 6. Wow! It processes the files 3.8 - 4.0 times faster than my old machine and does so in silence. All in a small relatively lightweight enclosure. The old massive 40 lb. Mac Pro sounds like a wind tunnel while doing its work on the files. What a difference! I also use Focus Magic as a plug-in for Photoshop to sharpen my Sony ILC A99II files that DxO doesn't have lens profiles for. I don't have numbers for this, but I can say that the process is significantly faster on the Mac Studio. It is important to note that these apps make use of complete multithreading, i.e. they take advantage of all 20 cores. If most of your apps are not multithreaded then save some money and get the Mac Studio MI Max. It is also important to note that the Mac Studio is not upgradeable (internal storage, processors, graphics), so buy the machine that will serve you well into the future. This is my first foray into Apple Silicon. So far I am extremely pleased and I haven't yet ventured into any video work, where I hear this machine really shines. Also there is an added bonus, that I never expected and that is the Mac Studio uses only 9 watts of power when it is idle or while I'm doing some web browsing. To me that is just amazing efficiency.

I have a small studio for audio production, and the Mac Studio is perfect for me. It handles the tasks and processes my files quickly. I can neither justify nor afford one of the new Mac Pros, but the Mac Studio suits me very well.

It's fast, does the job. So far all my programs work, so I'm happy. On a separate note, the new macOS is a lot like iOS and I'm not sure I like that. Ventura is a little glitchy.

I've been in the video production business over 40 years now. Back in the old days we were told to always use external hard drives for editing video which I always did. It had to do with not so reliable internal drives in the computer back then. I'm just wondering if with todays much more advanced technology if it would be ok to use the internal drive for editing in this new Mac Studio with these fantastic internal very fast SSDs? I don't know if it would put the computer in stress mode or not. Anyway, just trying to figure what I want to do. Thank you.
    Asked by: Gary
Using an internal SSD is far more reliable than using HDD in older computers. Editing off the internal drive is going to be fine, and is even the preferred method for most editors.

Is the internal SSD faster than buying an external SSD? I'm considering the SanDisk Extreme Portable 2 TB which advertises read speeds of 1050 Mbps, I want the best performance for 4K video editing
    Asked by: Jake
The internal storage on Mac Studios is very expensive, but it's extremely fast - about 5500 or 6000 MB/s as Seng Mar wrote below. You feel that immediately, because everything opens ridiculously fast. Example: Affinity Photo opens in 2 seconds vs. about 25 off SATA SSDs in my previous Mac. If you put a high-spec m.2 SSD in an enclosure that supports Thunderbolt 3/4 (or USB 4.0, same port) and use the appropriate port on a Mac Studio, it'll test at about 2600 MB/s read/write in Black Magic Speed Test - fast enough not to be a factor.

Mac Studio doesn't have a 16GB RAM option. It has minimum 32GB upgradable to 64 or 128GB unified RAM memory. Mac mini M1 has 8 or 16GB unified memory.

For editing in adobe premier and after effects. Does having additional cores of an ultra processor with 64 vs 48 core really make a difference rendering?
    Asked by: Todd
In general, the benefits of the 64-core GPU will only be seen under extremely heavy workloads. The average user will not see a significant benefit, but in the future as file sizes and workloads increase alongside innovation the extra cores may become more useful. I would consider it to be optional for the average user, but advantageous for "future-proofing."
