Yamaha CS-800 Overview

From Manufacturer

Collaborate and connect easily without hassle with the Yamaha CS-800, a video soundbar equipped with a 4K camera, Hexa beamforming microphone, and full-range speaker for comfortable and productive remote meetings in huddle rooms and offices. Using the positioning data provided from both the voice and camera pickup, Yamaha's new SoundCap Eye AI technology pinpoints participant's locations and blocks out unwanted background noise in potentially noisy environments, ensuring that everyone in the room can be heard clearly by the participants on the far end of the call—it's like having a skilled movie director, cameraman, and sound director working together behind the scenes.

Automatic display launch with easy-to-follow instructions allow for a quick jump into collaboration sessions. With just one USB connection to their laptop in BYOD environments, users can be up and running in no time. A multifunction remote with a large mute button on top allows easy control, configuration, and simple muting of your conferencing application. Installation is simple with three different options to suit your room setup. You can either use the included tabletop stand or wallmount bracket, or combine the wall mount bracket with a VESA bracket (available separately) for a TV mount.

Three-Dimensional Hexa-Microphone Array
  • The microphone is arranged in an hexagonal array. This shape creates a focused microphone beam that more accurately captures words spoken during conversations, producing a clearer and more precise sound compared to traditional video sound bars.
  • Face information from the video stream is also collected, allowing the beam to focus on active speakers within the meeting area.
SoundCap Eye Technology Distinguishes Voice vs. Noise
SoundCap Eye utilizes the camera and audio pickup to distinguish voices vs. ambient noise in open meeting areas. This is achieved by unifying three of Yamaha's proprietary technologies to optimize video conferencing: Face Focus Beamforming, Self-Silence, and Self-Volume Balancer.

Face Focus Beamforming

  • Face Focus Beamforming picks up your conversations while reducing the distracting noise around you. The CS-800 camera tracks the faces of participants in the meeting area using AI and limits the audio beams to these locations.

Self-Silence

  • The CS-800 includes a self-silence function that automatically mutes the microphone when the conference participants are not speaking.

Self-Volume Balancer

  • With the self-volume balancer function, the CS-800 automatically adjusts the volume, according to the ambient noise, to keep an appropriate speaker volume level.
Smart Framing for Focused Meetings
The facial-focus beamforming function recognizes people in the room who are speaking and automatically frames the video signal for remote participants. Smart Framing supports 3 modes:

  • Group: Frame all participants
  • Speaker: Frame main speaker
  • Individual: Frame specified person user selects
Full-Range Speaker Optimized for Voice
  • The 90 dB, full-range, built-in speaker of the CS-800 is optimized for voice, so that you can hear the remote participants clearly, anywhere in the room.
Easy-Launch for Quick and Smart Collaboration
Video / audio / screen sharing starts with one action and is easy and simple to connect with a single USB cable.

  • The CS-800 recognizes users entering the room and can automatically wake up the display via HDMI-CEC.
  • The CS-800 displays a guide on the room display, explaining how to use the room technology and start a meeting.
  • All functionalities: audio, camera, and display (DisplayLink) are connected to user’s laptop via just one USB cable (included).
Multifunction Remote for Easy Control and Configuration
  • The multifunction remote allows easy control and configuration. On top, there is the large mute button, allowing simple muting of your calls.
  • Hidden underneath are some more advanced controls, allowing interaction with the On-Screen Display, and manual control of the camera, audio, and feature activation.
Multi-Platform Compatibility, Seamless Connectivity
The CS-800 is compatible with all popular UC software providers for current or future use. It is Zoom-certified.

  • USB port for computer connection
  • HDMI port for display connection

Yamaha CS-800 Reviews

Overall works as advertised

I was skeptical at first about this product especially in this price point, $399 at the time of purchase, because it really advertises more than others in this category. I was looking for a product to make it easy to connect for Microsoft Teams meetings but also display our laptops on the screen in the conference room where this was placed. To my surprise it works just as Yamaha advertises, however the setup process and consistency of that ease of use is where this product falls off a bit. Setup of sharing the screen is not very straight forward after installing the display link app. I would recommend to Yamaha to not have the system show a blank screen during this process as it confused us the entire time thinking the device was not on. It took several tries to get it to work but when it did it worked pretty well. I do wish the device would output everything in 4K but that is a minor issue. The inconsistency with the cable as I have my coworkers use the device has been frustrating especially after running a longer cable in the room so as to not have a cable be in the way of walking throughout the room. It's hard to complain at this price point but I just wish it was more plug and play than it is. Typically restarting the device will get it back on track but having to sometimes unplug it from power and replug it back in is a pain especially since it is above our conference room tv.

Not what I expected from Bose

After purchasing several other Bose sound devices, this is my first disappointment. I have a SONOS bar that has much better sound quality. I would have purchased another SONOS, but that model was discontinued. So, I trusted Bose based on previous purchases. The CS-800 sounds tinny and if I boost the bass even just a little, it sounds like it's clipping. Too bad. Not what I'm accustomed to with Bose.
