OWC Atlas FXR Reviews
Gets Hot

The reader is very fast, but it gets very hot when I use it on my M1 MacBook. If I use it on the Mac Desktop (Mac 5.1) itâs a lot slower but I donât have the heat issues. OWC replaced it under warranty but I still have the same issues. Itâs probably best to eject it after you ingest your images.

I wanted another CFexpress reader to add to my travel kit. This one is the perfect size and has great specs. The only issue I've noticed is how warm/hot it gets. When plugged into my Dell XPS it 'idles' at 100F, exterior surface temp of reader, with no card inserted and using an OWC cable. With a card inserted and downloading files it runs ~118F. I have a Transcend reader that does get warm but not close to this one. Time will tell how this one lasts.
