Senal SMH-1020CH2 Overview

The Senal SMH-1020CH2 Dual-Sided Communication Headset is ideal for use with wired and wireless communications systems in TV or radio broadcast, communications systems, and sports applications. The headset features a supercardioid, dynamic microphone that's optimized for clear and intelligible voice communication, while rejecting off-axis sound and minimizing handling noise. The microphone is mounted on a durable gooseneck for precise positioning and can be rotated 180°for use on the left or right side.

The SMH-1020CH2 is also designed with a flip-up feature that mutes the microphone when swiveled up to a vertical position. The headphones feature Senal's 40mm neodymium drivers, which deliver a wide frequency response and dynamic range to ensure accurate monitoring. The closed back, over-the-ear design and extra-deep earcups provide sound isolation, even in noisy environments. Thick padding on the headband and earcups offer comfort throughout sessions of extended use. The headphones are also collapsible, making storage and transportation a cinch.

The SMH-1020CH2 feature Senal's twist-locking jack that allows you to easily attach or swap cables and accessories, and expands the compatibility of the headset with Telex and PortaCom wireless systems, broadcast consoles, mixers, computers, and more.

Chose the Right Senal Cable for Your Communications System
The SMH-1020CH2 headset does not include an output cable. Select one of the following Senal cables for your communications system:

  • SMH-H5X2: 2.5mm TRRS male to 5-pin XLR male cable for Telex systems
  • SMH-H4X2: 2.5mm TRRS male to 4-pin XLR male cable for PortaCom and Clear-Com systems
  • SMH-HM3X2: 2.5mm male to 3.5mm TRS male and 3-pin XLR male Y-cable for mixing boards or broadcast consoles
  • SMH-HMM2: 2.5mm TRRS male to two 3.5mm TRS male Y-cable for desktop or laptop computer
  • SMH-PIGTAIL: 2.5mm TRRS male to unterminated end

The supercardioid dynamic microphone is optimized for clear and intelligible voice reproduction while it rejects unwanted, off-axis noise. A lot of wasted money

I was very excited to order these as a less expensive, but reliable, alternative to the more expensive Sennheiser models. I read some reviews, and everyone else seemed to be pleased with them. We are a high school live stream team, so saving money when we can is important. We also like to streamline our production, so we purchased these to use with a Vocaster 2--which is highly portable and does not require an extra power cable--to avoid having to carry around full-blown mixer. When I opened the package, I was immediately worried about the build. The cord is not hardwired into the headset--it is a plug-and-twist setup with a 3mm plug. I was also concerned that the other end of this cord was an XLR plug (not a problem) paired with another 3mm plug, requiring the use of an adapter for a 1/4" input; in my experience these adapters just do not work well and always produce some sort of noise. Not sure why Senal doesn't make a model with a dedicated 1/4" plug that is hardwired into the headpiece, though I can see the advantage of having multiple plug options. Unfortunately, these have a high-pitched whine and a lot of static when using them with our Vocaster, making them unusable for us. We have tried other broadcasting headsets to make sure it was not the Vocaster that was the issue, and they worked perfectly. This was a lot of money to spend on something that is basically now just a set of glorified studio headphones. I would like to get a refund and order the Sennheiser models, but we waited too long to try to use them. Next time, I will definitely spend the extra money and buy a more reliable product.

Great Product…after I fixed it

Got this with the cable for clear com. The headset feels really good. Lightweight and comfortable. The mic didn’t work out of the box and I realized that the MFR wired the mic backwards. Once I switched the pins, everything worked great!! Will be buying more.
