It Looks the Part, but...

I was anxious to try this unit because it appeared to have a physical design that would render the optical performance of classic tungsten fresnels. This is a seriously well-made fixture in that it is solid, constructed of good materials and well assembled. The LED flood/spot dolly mechanism is smooth and stable. I only tested it in the bi-color mode. Color was fairly accurate with Kelvin temp within 150 degrees, and good G/M tracking dead on or at -1 pretty much across the spectrum of tungsten to daylight and the range of output.
The optical performance was a mixed bag. In both flood and spot, it makes a beam with nicely soft penumbra edges. In flood it is quite wide and consistent. In spot it does not spot down a ton, but it does increase in intensity about a stop. The deal-breaker for me was its optical performance with barndoors. The optics will not permit the barndoors to make a useable cut. We kind of expect this when at or near the spot end of a fresnel, but this unit will not make a cut any better when in flood position. Surprising. So, to control this unit, you will have to be doing some flagging and/or Blackwrapping. The rather wide beam could be useable if the unit's output was greater. But as is, it does not have much of a throw distance capacity. I compared it to a 300 watt COB bi-color unit with the Smallrig frenel lens and barndoors (which do cut better). Although a much tighter beam in flood, it is powerful, therefore useful for a long-throw tool compared to this Genaray. I'm still looking for an LED fixture/fresnel combo that can "do it all."
Finally, it is heavy! Definitely a studio fixture.

The Genaray LF-RGB-65 RGB LED Fresnel with 6.5" Lens runs relatively cool compared to traditional tungsten or HMI fixtures of equivalent output. Because it uses an efficient COB LED talent or subjects when positioned closely. The light features an internal cooling fan to manage thermal output from its 200W draw.

512 DMX channels is standard DMX for one universe -- but how many DMX channels does this REQUIRE for various modes? An example would be "3: one for luminosity, one for color temp, and one for shutter/strobe."
