Designed to provide a nearly complete package for universal close-miking applications, this B&H Kit provides several vital components from the Miniature Clip Mic (MCM) system, including one Neumann KK 14 Capsule, one flexible gooseneck, one in-line XLR-connected output stage module, one acoustically transparent foam windscreen, and one proprietary connector to 3.5mm TRS audio cable for connecting to the output stage module or a wireless transmitter.
The Neumann KK 14 Capsule is part of the modular Miniature Clip Mic (MCM) system designed for universal instrument close-miking applications including solo instrumentalists, big band and brass sections, and amplified orchestras in live applications. Elevating electret technology to Neumann standards, it delivers a staggering 153 dB maximum SPL to capture the details of both loud and very-soft instruments without adding distortion or self-noise. The KK 14 is encapsulated in a lightweight titanium housing to ensure stability and a long service life on the road. Assembled in Germany by hand to align with Neumann's high standards, the capsule delivers first-rate tonal consistency plus that Neumann aesthetics and handling.
Capable of handling an extremely high 153 dB maximum SPL with an ultrawide 130 dB dynamic range, the KK 14 is ideal for close-miking virtually any instrument, from bombastic drums to delicate strings.
With its locking 3.5mm termination, the AC 31 cable (available separately) can be used to connect the KK 14 to the MCM 100 output stage module (available separately) for plugging the mic into a mixing board via XLR. The AC 31 cable can also be used to connect the capsule to a wireless transmitter with Sennheiser-compatible mic-input jack.
Neumann offers three more cables to work with other popular wireless transmitters including Lectrosonics, Shure, Zaxcom, Wisycom, and others.
- AC 32 cable with LEMO 3-pin connector
- AC 33 cable with Microdot connector
- AC 34 cable with 4-pin mini-XLR connector
The black Neumann SH 150 is a 5.9" flexible gooseneck for the MCM microphone system. The KK 14 cardioid or KK 13 omnidirectional capsule mounts on the gooseneck using a detachable screw connection. The built-in elastic suspension bracket is made of sophisticated plastic for excellent absorption of structure-born noise.
The SH 150 is wired internally with a cable terminated with a proprietary connector at one end to connect the KK 14 capsule and another proprietary connector at the other to connect one of the MCM output cable (available separately). An instrument-specific MCM clip (available separately) is required to mount the SH 150 on your instrument. The included KC 1 cable brace can be used to keep the cable neat and tidy away from the instrument, while preventing unwanted cable noise. Three different lengths of SH goosenecks are available—3.9, 5.9, and 9.8"—allowing you to precisely fit the microphone to your instrument.
- MC 1: Clip to mount the gooseneck on the body of a violin, viola, mandolin, and similar instruments.
- MC 2: Clip to mount the gooseneck on the strings of a cello below the bridge.
- MC 3: Clip to mount the gooseneck on the strings of a double bass below the bridge.
- MC 4: Clip to mount the gooseneck on the rib/body of a double bass or similar instrument.
- MC 5: Universal strap clip to mount the gooseneck on an oboe, clarinet, recorder, bassoon, flute, or harp.
- MC 6: Universal clamp to mount the gooseneck on the bell of a trumpet, trombone, saxophone, French horn, or on percussion instruments or pole stand.
- MC 7: Clip to mount the gooseneck on the rim of a snare, tom, stand tom, or timpani.
- MC 8: Magnetic clip to mount the gooseneck in an upright piano or grand piano.
- MC 9: Clip to mount the gooseneck to the body of a guitar, ukulele, dobro, acoustic bass, or cello.
- AC 31 cable with locking, 3.5mm TRS connector for wireless transmitter and MCM 100 XLR output stage module
- AC 32 cable with LEMO 3-pin connector for wireless transmitter
- AC 33 cable with Microdot connector for wireless transmitter
- AC 34 cable with 4-pin mini-XLR connector for wireless transmitter
Part of the modular Miniature Clip Mic (MCM) system, the Neumann MCM 100 is an in-line output stage module for the KK 14 capsule. It enables you to run the capsule on +48V phantom power from a traditional mic preamp when plugging the mic into a mixing board via a balanced XLR cable.
The MCM 100 is equipped with a 3.5mm TRS female input connector and a 3-pin XLR male output connector. The AC 31 cable (available separately) is required to connect the KK 14 capsule to the output stage module.
The Neumann WS 110 is an acoustically transparent foam windscreen for the MCM microphone system. It features a 20mm diameter and mounts on the KK 14 capsule to minimize wind noise and protect the electret-condenser element.
The Neumann AC 31 is an output cable used to connect the Miniature Clip Mic System (MCM) to either the MCM 100 Output Stage module for XLR wired operation or to a wireless transmitter equipped with a locking 3.5mm mic input for wireless operation. The 5.9' cable is Kevlar-reinforced for maximum strength and high flexibility. It is terminated with a locking proprietary connector at one end and a locking 3.5mm TRS male connector at the other.
