Drawmer MX30 Pro Overview

Presented as a lower-cost processor for project studios, home studios, and live venues operating on a tight budget, the MX30-Pro is an all-in-one, dual-channel dynamics unit with gating, compression, and limiting facilities that sacrifices none of the signature Drawmer sophistication. Drawing circuit design elements from Drawmer's high-end products but sporting simplified controls for easier operation, the MX30-Pro utilizes extensive automatic, program-adaptive functions for the gate circuit, release parameter, and soft knee compressor, so that even an inexperienced user can get quality performance out of this processor with minimal hassle.

The MX30-Pro features plenty of hands-on control too, including selectable peak limiting, ratio adjustment from 1:2:1 to infinite:1 for true hard limiting, selectable dual-mono or stereo operation, gate threshold control (from -70 to +20 dB), and more, while the clear nine-segment LED meters let you easily keep an eye on your signals at all times. This dynamics processor features an internally switched power supply with global compatibility, and includes an AC power cord to get you started right away.

Note:
Internal voltage switching requires disassembly of the chassis and should only be performed by a qualified technical engineer.
Program Adaptive Gate
The MX30 uses a proprietary Program Adaptive gate circuit that varies its ratio depending on the dynamics of the signal being processed. Because the onset of gating is progressive, those low-level signals most at risk will be treated to a lower ratio of gating (like an expander), while the residual noise during pauses will be subjected to a higher expansion ratio and will be attenuated more. The outcome is a gate that requires less stringent setups and is more tolerant to wanted sounds that are only slightly above the residual noise floor.
Peak Limiter
A further feature of the MX30 is a peak limiter that allows the user to set an absolute output signal level that will not be exceeded. If the peak limiter threshold is exceeded for more than a few milliseconds, additional gain reduction will be applied to reduce the overall signal level to within accepted limits, without distortion.

Once the peak has passed, the system gain will return to normal over the period of about one second. This facility is extremely valuable both in live sound applications, for driver protection, and in digital recording where an absolute maximum recording level exists. Furthermore, when overdriven, it can be used creatively to produce deliberate pumping effects.
