The lightweight, compact flash easily fits into tight places where larger units can't go. With a guide number of 65, the FlashQ x20 has TTL power selection and runs on two alkaline or rechargeable NiMH batteries, and it will recycle quickly depending on the batteries in use.

One of the flash's clever features is the removeable Sony TTL transmitter that comes with the unit. By detaching the transmitter and mounting the flash head remotely on a light stand, you can adjust power and trigger it from the on-camera transmitter at a distance. In fact, the transmitter can control several x20s simultaneously. Features include 1st and 2nd curtain sync and flash exposure compensation. Perks include a built-in filter holder and tilting capability. Finally, a pleasant surprise is FlashQ x20's LED light, which can be used as a modeling light, or with its high CRI of 95, used as a video light.

    This is a great little multifunctional flash. The TTL works great with my Fuji camera and the flexibility of the wireless transmitting or on the camera flash plus angle adjuster is well thought out. My only criticism is that the plastic feels a bit cheap and the controls are slightly confusing at first.

    Not poor QC, but poor design

    In my review of the first sample, I attributed the persistent overexposure to poor Quality Control. I recently got my second sample and it overexposed as the first. So, the first was not a result of poor QC, but performed as designed, which is with significant weaknesses. First let's consider how pre-flash works. In a dimly lit room, the camera normally will crank up ISO to keep shutter speed at 1/60. The pre-flash will indicate to the camera to turn down ISO, so the flash does not overexpose the picture. The Sony flash forces an ISO that will not overexpose in a dim room. The FlashQ does not turn back the ISO to the same extent as the Sony does. This suggest that the pre-flash of the FlashQ is not at the same power as the Sony, but weaker, and so deceiving the camera so it keeps ISO higher. So the higher ISO means gross overexposure in a dimly lit room. In my previous review, I said that the Exposure Compensation in the flash does not work. It does, but only in one direction. With the exposure compensation, you cannot get less power than 1/64, but you can dial in MORE power, like 1/16. So you can increase the overexposure even more with Exposure Compensation, but not less. There is a work-around. Before using flash, you can take the ISO off AUTO, and dial in an ISO value which will prevent flash overexposure, like 100 or 400. This means you cannot use slow flash, because the exposure time for the ambient light will be too long. Moreover, does an auto flash which requires you to remember to overrode the auto ISO qualify as an auto flash? I think not. Alternatively, use this flash only as a fill-in light in situations that are otherwise well lit, so the camera will not automatically raise ISO above the tolerance level for this flash. I apologize for returning the first flash pre-maturely, and assuming it was just a poor sample and not a design.

    Will the Fuji version of this also work on a Sony? Will it do ttl or just manual? Is there a way to make it compatible to do ttl compensation in a Sony as well?

    The LightPix Labs FlashQ x20 with Transmitter for FUJIFILM will only work in manual mode on Sony cameras, it is not possible to make it support Sony TTL due to the hardware.

    While it will depend on what type flash connection is used by the camera onto which you wish to use the LightPix Labs FlashQ x20 with Transmitter for FUJIFILM, the Impact SCS-MPC PC Male to Hot Shoe Sync Cord (12"), B&H # IMSCSMPC, would be a compatible hot shoe adapter that will allow you to use the flash with cameras that have a PC (X) sync terminal connector. https://bhpho.to/3Vtm7lP

    While we do not carry the Fujifilm version of the LightPix Labs FlashQ x20 with Transmitter for Sony in our inventory, while the flash may it onto a Leica M hot shoe, do note that you would not have TTL automatic flash exposure output and you would need to set the flash output manually.
