The Lexar D400 I purchased failed immediately due to a hardware defect inside the drive. The USB controller powered on, but the internal memory chip was never recognized properly. Because of that, the drive never functioned as real storage, even once. 1. The drive appeared in Windows, but only halfway When plugged in, the computer detected that “something” was connected, but it didn’t behave like a normal flash drive. It showed a drive letter, but trying to open it resulted in “Access Denied.” The system could not read or write anything because the memory chip wasn’t responding. 2. The drive pretended to have a partition, but it wasn’t real Windows showed what looked like a partition, but it was only a ghost entry. The drive never actually created a usable storage area. This is a common sign that the controller is alive but the memory chip behind it is dead. 3. The drive could not be formatted or repaired Every attempt to format, wipe, or reset the drive appeared to “succeed,” but nothing actually changed. The controller accepted the requests, but the memory chip never stored anything. This is why the drive never mounted and never became usable. 4. The device eventually stopped identifying itself as a storage device After a short time, the drive stopped showing up as a real USB storage device at all. The computer no longer recognized it as a disk, which means the internal memory chip completely failed. ⭐ The Root Cause The Lexar D400 unit I received had a defective memory chip from the start.
