Problems that Vaonis will not tell you up front
Buyers need to know that to optimize the photographic results of the Vespera, there are a number of optional filters required. The light pollution filter will be very useful for most of us living in metropolitan areas with light wash from artificial sources, but the filter costs about $230. To get best results on Nebula, there is an additional filter that costs about $400. The huge problem with both of these items is that because of the coatings that Vaonis places on the glass that they are not water, dust, or smudge resistant, and CANNOT BE CLEANED!!! This is a ridiculous problem considering that it will be necessary to leave the Vespera out for many hours overnight to maximize photographic results and if any rain or winds with dust were to occur, then the expensive filters could be ruined and need replacement. There are other manufacturers of astrophotography equipment that make light pollution filters that can be cleaned but unfortunately will not fit onto the Vespera. Vaonis has the market cornered on filters for their telescope which seems like an intentional profit maximizing strategy but terrible customer service.
Game changer
This is made My astrophotography 10 to 100 times better. I'm currently at a care facility in can't go anywhere other than our parking The building is surrounded by lights which really put haze around the edge of my photography. I put the filter on it's all gone I'm getting good sharp clear pictures. Well worth the price.
