The kit includes a replacement for the original drop-in filter holder, which features a thumbwheel to rotate the magnetically mounted filter inside the lens. Rotating the variable neutral density filter provides an exposure increase ranging from 1.5- to 5-stops, providing finer exposure control, whether shooting still or video. Increasing neutral density offers finer control in available shutter speeds or aperture settings for both still and video applications. Using a longer shutter speed makes it possible to increase blur to convey a sense of movement. It also makes it possible to shoot using wider lens apertures, helping to isolate a subject from the background and increasing bokeh.
