Pentax AD 7x32 Overview

Combining easy portability with premium optical features, Pentax AD 7x32 ED Binoculars are designed for on-the-go glassing. You'll see sharp details of distant objects with the 7x magnifying power, and the 32mm objective lenses gather plenty of light while allowing a compact and lightweight form factor. Extra-low dispersion glass corrects for chromatic aberration to ensure colors are accurately rendered, and fully antireflective-coated optics maximize light transmission through the entire optical path to make views appear bright and crisp, especially in low light.

Complementing the optical performance is a housing that is built for a lifetime of rugged outdoor use. The chassis is made of grippy, comfortable-to-hold thermoplastic elastomer resin. The optical tubes are nitrogen filled to resist internal fogging from sudden temperature changes. With the optional TP-3 adapter, you can mount the binoculars on a tripod for hands-free, no-shake viewing. Whether birding, sightseeing, exploring the backcountry, or seeing the stage at a music festival, this optic will assure a great view.

Bright, Clear Viewing
The AD ED provides a bright, clear view of the subject with minimal glare and ghost images, thanks to the application of a full multicoating process to all lens surfaces, and a special coating designed to optimize light transmittance.
ED Glass Optical Elements
As the first models in the PENTAX A series to incorporate ED (extra-low dispersion) optical elements for effective compensation of chromatic aberration, these binoculars deliver a sharp, high-contrast, blur-free image.
Compact, Lightweight Design
While incorporating objective lenses with a 32mm diameter to assure superb operability, these models are designed to be compact and lightweight for easy carrying in a wide range of applications, from bird watching and nature observation to the viewing of sports events and concerts.
Additional Features
  • Exterior housing made of thermoplastic elastomer resin to improve holding comfort and prevent accidental slippage
  • Easy-to-operate diopter adjustment mechanism with a non-slip, ring-type adjuster
  • Waterproof construction equivalent to JIS Class 6 standards for dependable use in adverse weather conditions
  • Nitrogen-filled design to prevent interior lens surfaces from fogging due to sudden temperature changes
  • Extendable eyepieces for effortless shift between in-use and storage positions
  • Easy mounting on a tripod, in combination with the optional TP-3 Tripod Adapter

Pentax AD 7x32 Reviews

Our go-to in Yellowstone

Pentax 7x32 ED – Yellowstone Field Notes On our recent trip to Yellowstone, my family and I packed four different binoculars: a pair of Nikon Prostaff 7 10x42s, a Vortex Viper 10x52, Pentax’s new 8.5x21 Papilio, and my own Pentax 7x32 ED. We rotated through them often, but more often than not, I found myself (reclaiming from my daughter and her boyfriend who also preferred them) the Pentax 7x32s. Here’s why: Optical Performance Clarity: The glass is crystal clear edge to edge. Unlike the others, I didn’t feel like I had to “work” to see what was happening at the margins. Less eye strain, more immersion. Color Accuracy: The ED glass virtually eliminated fringing. The Nikons, while great for the price, showed more color bleed. The Pentax even felt slightly sharper than the Vortex in this regard. Ease of Use Magnification vs. Stability: While the 7x magnification doesn’t reach as far as the 10x options, the payoff was less hand shake and a steadier image. In practice, that meant I saw more, not less. Focus Ring: I’d read complaints about the focus being sticky, but mine was smooth with just the right amount of resistance. Dialing in was quick and precise. Design & Handling Size & Feel: Compact enough to slide into the side compartment of the car, with a balance that just felt right in the hands. Lens Caps: My one nitpick. The tethered caps tend to flop around and get in the way—but they’re easy enough to remove. Low-Light Performance I had my doubts about 32's at dawn while watching for wolves and bears, but the Pentax surprised me. They held their own against both the larger Vortex and Nikon models. Only the Papilios struggled in those conditions, as expected. Value At $379, they were pricier than I originally wanted to spend—especially with the smaller objective size. But after this trip, I consider it money well spent. These are Pentax's newest model and ED glass alone makes them worth it. Final Thoughts All four binoculars brought something to the table. The Nikon Prostaffs deliver great bang for the buck, the Vortex Vipers still impress, and the Papilios are pure fun for close-up exploration (looking at flowers and plants at 6 is a treat). But the Pentax 7x32 EDs stood out as the glass I reached for most. They struck the best balance of clarity, comfort, and performance—making them my go-to pair for the trip, and likely for many trips to come. They feel premium and the view from them is premium.

Excellent binocular

I am surprised to find how much I can see for being only 7x due to excellent clarity and contrast. Controls are all perfect (if you don't require a very stiff focus wheel). Very good edge to edge clarity. I recommend these. A little hefty in weight but I like this as it holds very steady for me.
