Blackmagic Design CONVNVIPA3/3G Overview

Convert the signals from three separate 3G-SDI devices to 2110 IP video systems with this 2110 IP Converter 3X3G from Blackmagic Design. The wide range of connectivity includes a 10G Ethernet port that handles up to three video channels simultaneously, three 3G-SDI inputs and three 3G-SDI outputs, as well as three loop outputs. The unit also handles up to 16 channels of embedded audio with their respective video signals, and the RJ45 10G Ethernet port supports 10/100/1000/10G BASE-T and can also be used for PoE+ power connectivity. The reference output is timed to the 2110 PTP clock.

A 2.2" color LCD display on the front panel provides signal monitoring, menus, and diagnostic data. IP inputs can also be routed from the panel. Designed to integrate any 3G-SDI equipment into 2110 IP broadcast systems, the rackmount design allows the unit to be installed in equipment racks right beside the equipment you're converting. Employing an active fan-based cooling system, the unit remains cool even when mounted next to other gear. In addition to the PoE+ option, the unit also features a 100 to 240V AC power port.

Multiple SMPTE 2110 IP Channels Supported
The unit conforms to the SMPTE ST2110 standard for IP video, which specifies the transport, synchronization, and description of video, audio, and ancillary data over managed IP networks for broadcast. It can also sync SDI inputs to a common PTP clock or external gear can lock to the reference output that's also generated from the PTP clock. It supports SMPTE-2110-20 uncompressed video, SMPTE-2110-21 traffic shaping/timing, SMPTE-2110-30 audio, and SMPTE-2110-40 for ancillary data. Multicast, which is an efficient way of distributing video, audio, and data from a single source to multiple destinations, is also supported.
NMOS Protocol Support
The converter supports the NMOS interface specifications so all 2110 IP video devices can operate together as a large virtual router. Videohub Smart Control routes sources to destinations on 2110 IP networks because it can act as an NMOS controller. The NMOS interface specification describes how SMPTE 2110 devices are discovered and controlled on IP networks. IS-04 is supported for discovery and registration of IP video devices and IS-05 for connection management between IP video devices. This means you can make connections between sources and destinations just like a traditional SDI router.
Supports All SD and HD Formats up to 1080p60
The 3G-SDI connections support both SD and HD video standards. You can connect your existing SDI broadcast equipment to new IP-based infrastructure. In standard definition, both 525i59.94 and 625i50 standards are supported. In high definition, the unit supports all 720p video standards up to 720p60, all 1080 interlaced standards up to 1080i60, and all 1080p standards up to 1080p60, and you can run three different video standards at the same time.
True 10-Bit Broadcast Video Quality
Uncompressed 10-bit is the most commonly used television standard, allowing colors to be represented with four times the precision of 8-bit video. Working with 10-bit video will ensure that all images are a perfect pixel for pixel transmission of the original SDI source, so you're always working at the absolute highest quality possible.
Localized for 13 Popular Languages
The unit supports multiple languages in the menus so you can customize it to the language you prefer. You get support for English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, German, French, Russian, Italian, Portuguese, Turkish, Polish, and Ukrainian languages. Simply go into the front panel setup menu to change the language.

Blackmagic Design CONVNVIPA3/3G Reviews

Works well if it even powers on

Works as described. However, be sure to run tests before you use these converters. I ordered 2 for my live event to use instead of an SDI snake and we went to power the boxes on and one of them powered up, and the other was dead. Didn’t power on at all. Thankfully we had enough SDI for make up for it but it was a huge bummer for a brand new out of the box converter to not even power on. The one box that powered on did work well.

Works well. First unit was DOA

I ordered a pair of these to send and receive 3 channels of SDI from one room to another over a single cable. One of the units would not power on. I was able to exchange it with B&H, but was not able to expedite shipping or request advanced replacement. The replacement unit arrived just days before my event, and luckily this one worked, or I would have been running long cables through a hallway between offices. I'm planning to buy more of these, as well as some of the other BMD 2110 gear. I'll definitely test these more thoroughly before purchasing any more though.

Is this product Bi-Directional? Could I take in feeds through IP and convert them to SDI? Or is this product just SDI to IP
Asked by: Sean
Yes, the Blackmagic Design 2110 IP Converter 3×3G is a bidirectional 3G-SDI converter that lets you simultaneously convert SDI to IP and IP to SDI.

Can I run Cat5e if it is under 150'? Thank you.
Asked by: Brian
Cat5e bandwidth does not fit the requirements needed for the Blackmagic Design 2110 IP Converter 3X3G. We recommend using Cat7 cables. Pearstone Cat 7 Double-Shielded Ethernet Patch Cable (100', Black) BH #PECAT7S100BK

If I have THREE if these boxes, can one box send out video feeds to the other two boxes (or more) on the same network?
Asked by: bernard
Yes, you can receive ST 2110 streams on the Blackmagic Design 2110 IP Converter 3X3G to route to the SDI Outputs, so one unit would be able to send up to three converted feeds to be received by two other units on the same 10G Ethernet network. Please note that your network switch should be a managed 10G network switch that supports IGMP version 3 snooping, such as the Ubiquiti Networks Switch Enterprise XG 24 24-Port 10G Managed Network Switch with 25G SFP28, B&H # UBUSWENTXG24.

then you need 2 of this to transport 3 SDI signal in 2 ways (full duplex) and how many meters support, of what CAT cable?
Asked by: Luis
Each Blackmagic Design 2110 IP Converter 3X3G can send and receive three 3G-SDI signals at the same time. 3G-SDI and Cat-6 cable have a range of about 300ft. Adding a second Blackmagic Design 2110 IP Converter 3X3G would allow you to receive the signals you are sending.
