Tiffen Black Glimmerglass Camera Filter (72mm, Grade 1/8)
Key Features
  • ColorCore Technology
  • Reduces Hard Sharpness
  • Blends Contrast Levels
  • Enhances Natural Beauty
Responding to the demands of cinematographers, this 72mm Black Glimmerglass Camera Filter from Tiffen features a grade 1/8 density and is designed to take the crisp edges off the images that modern lenses and digital cameras produce. The filter subtly softens the image and lowers detail resolution for those who want to simulate the look of film footage while shooting on digital gear. This black Glimmerglass model reduces contrast and overall sharpness and can smooth out unwanted blemishes, wrinkles, or other fine details in a subject's face while keeping the general image in focus. Manufactured using ColorCore technology, the filter is designed to be accurate in its effect and to produce consistent results.

Tiffen Black Glimmerglass Reviews

Pleased with results, happy with purchase

I bought this filter some time ago and never really had the right opportunity to try it out until now. In that intervening time, I couldn't help thinking I'd wasted my money on something unnecessary, as well as being unsure if I'd gone for the right grade filter (grade 1), but I recently did a portrait shoot with a model, in a darkish environment with some domestic lights around, and the filter really did a great job of adding a sense of warmth to the images and taking the harsh "clarity" away from the lights. I didn't actually do any side-by-side shots with and without the filter, so I can't say precisely how the shots would have looked without the filter, but I am really quite pleased with the halation effect in the final images, without affecting sharpness of the model. For reference, I was shooting with a Sony Alpha 7III and Sigma 28-70/2.8.

Love these, needs more sizes though

This is becoming my go-to filter, but it isn't available in sizes under 52mm. OG Glimmerglass goes down further, but some of my smaller micro 4/3 lenses go down to 37mm. It would be nice to be able to use these instead of having to go to Cinebloom or Black Pro Mist.
