Sonnet Echo 20 Reviews

Overkill for many of us, but hey, gimmie the goods!

I recently relocated my MacPro workstation into another room next to my server, which I connected to via optical Thunderbolt 3. I decided to go one step further and just move everything there. Needing a way to connect my to my monitors and keyboard/mouse I figured Thunderbolt docks were the best option. I was initially using a simple Thunderbolt hub/splitter but soon figured I needed something with more options. My main reason was audio. I was using my Blackmagic 4k mini for my system audio, but it's not really designed for that. It works, but after a while the audio can get out of sync requiring to reboot the device. The Sonnet Echo 20 has RCA line out jacks on the back which was exactly what I needed. The sound quality is perfect when feeding into my mixer and monitors. I can also keep using the volume control on my keyboard, which the Blackmagic could not. Over all this thing handles the majority of my needs. Two 4 monitors, audio out, USB for mouse ,keyboard, printer and any random drives I may need to connect. Extra Thunderbolt and USB-C ports, HDMI. It's silent and even goes to sleep with my Mac. It get's slightly warm but that's expected. I keep a small silent USB fan on it all mounted under my desk. It really is the best dock out there. Oh yeah, there's also a NVME slot built in if you want that too!

Great Docking Station w/ Many Ports

This is a great docking station that allows me to easily switch my monitor/external drive setup between my personal laptop and my work laptop. My only complaint is that it can get quite warm. Due to this I typically like to power down when not using my computer to allow it time to cool off.

The Sonnet Echo 20 Thunderbolt 4 SuperDock, B&H # SOECHODK20T4, does not support Thunderbolt 2 ports, it must be connected directly to a Thunderbolt 3 or 4 port.

Do I need an active cable to run one 4K monitor? What about two 4k monitors and hard drives?
Asked by: Alan
The Sonnet Echo 20 Thunderbolt 4 SuperDock has a single HDMI 2.1 output, which will work with any HDMI 2.1 cable to send a 4K video signal to a monitor. You could then use one of the three Thunderbolt 4 ports to send a second 4K signal to the second monitor so long as it has a USB-C, HDMI, or DisplayPort input. Hard drives can also be connected to the Sonnet Echo 20 Thunderbolt 4 SuperDock via Thunderbolt cables, USB-C cables, or USB-A cables.
