Ocean Way Audio ISO-2 Reviews
Not as Expected
I have the Ocean Way Audio RM1-B ribbon microphone, and in my personal opinion, it is one of the best microphones for vocals I have heard. I purchased the ISO-2 suspension mount because I mount the RM1-B microphone in a sE Electronics Reflexion Filter PRO Portable Vocal Booth combined with a Latch Lake micKing 2200 straight stand and a Galaxy Audio Lifesaver sandbag with 40lbs. of sand, which is necessary because of the weight of the microphone (7lbs.). It works okay, but occasionally there will be noise that's picked up through the stand. The Iso-1 wasn't available when I purchased the RM1-B, so I was glad when the Iso-2 showed up. However, after receiving it and installing it, I found that when you put the RM1-B in the Iso-2 it actually touches the bottom of the yoke because of its weight, negating the purpose of the Iso mount. Additionally, the screws on the original yoke for tightening and holding the microphone in position are too short, and must be replaced with longer screws that will reach through both the yoke and the Iso-2. I was surprised by this, since I expected that these things would have been taken into account when it was engineered. I will say that it appears that it will work if you mount the Iso-2 hanging from a boom as the RM1-B will hang freely with nothing for it to touch beneath it. Perhaps this was the intended use as it was being designed. If that is the case, there is no mention of this specific use expressed anywhere in their literature or description that I have found. Since this was a non-returnable item upon purchase, I will be keeping it for the time when I can use it to suspend the microphone under a boom. Until then, it was a bad purchase.
