Leica HG-DC1 Overview

A unique grip dedicated to the Leica Q3-series of cameras, the HG-DC1 Wireless Charging Handgrip improves both camera handling and ergonomics as well as enables wireless charging of the camera's BP-SCL6 battery when used with a Qi-enabled charging mat, like the Leica Drop XL Wireless Charger.

As a grip, the HG-DC1 attaches to the Q3 via its tripod mount and provides a deeper right-hand grip for more comfortable use and more stable one-handed shooting. There is a threaded mount on the side of the grip to attach optional Finger Loops, too.

While physically compatible with all Q3-series cameras, this grip's diamond-pattern design matches the specific leatherette texture of the Q3 and Q3 43.

While I Considered Purchasing A 3rd Party Handgrip Or Even A Used Version Of The Leica Wireless Charging Handgrip, I Came To The Realization That Now Was Not The Time To Penny Pinch, Especially After Spending $6700 On My Q3. The Leica Wireless Charging Handgrip Is Solid, Elegant And An Absolute Necessity For The Q3, Especially When Combined With The Leica Thumb Support. Just Do It!

Battery Drain

The form of the grip is beautiful, classic Leica. It serves its intended function, it's much easier to hold the camera. However in its current configuration the grip is unusable since when its plugged into the Q3 the battery slowly drains to 0%. This is a known issue and I was disappointed Leica hasn't come up with a solution even after a year of the device being on the market. Very disappointing. I returned it.

Can one attach a carrying strap (like a Blackrapid strap) to the hand grip and still mount the camera + grip to an Arca-Swiss tripod mount?
Asked by: Dana
The handgrip is not Arca-Swiss compatible. The flair seen in pictures of the grip is not for a QR but rather to provide a more stable base for the camera when placed on the charging base

Is the Q2 handgrip compatible with the Q3? I don't care about wireless charging.
Asked by: David
@Ralph - Is the fit of the Q2 grip mounted on the Q3 as "clean" and precise as it is on the Q2, or are there some slightly incongruent/misaligned corners or edges? I'm in the same boat with you: no interest in the wireless charging functionality (especially with multiple users complaining of grip-induced idle battery depletion due, ironically, to the grip contacts unwittingly creating a continuous background load on the battery). If you could share some very clear, close-up photos of your Q2 grip mounted on your Q3 in a review posted here, I'm quite sure MANY of us would love to see them, as we're considering the same solution you've improvised - thanks!
