Utilizing a unique design, which offers a modern take on the classic vari-mu ratio curve on classic VCA compressors, the T-Komp from TK Audio is a progressive ratio dual-mono / stereo compressor that increases compression ratios with the signal and threshold levels. Making this design more useful are two selectable ratio ranges, 1:1 to 20:1 for classic hard compression and 1:1 to 2:1 for narrow, subtle dynamics processing, making it easy to use the T-Komp for everything from recording and mix/master sessions to delicate bus compression on a range of input sources.
With the T-Komp you get five RMS timings, including one timing similar to the classic 160VU and a fifth program adaptive mode that's ideal for live audio. You also get plenty of control over your processing, so you can tackle a wide number of audio problems, including selectable feedback mode for a smooth musical response and feedforward mode for a punchy, modern sound, a 150 Hz high-pass filter for taming low-frequency energy, a blend control for easy parallel compression, as well as threshold and make-up gain control (up to +20 dB), with all knob controls being fully stepped for easy recall.
- Fast: 1 to 40ms, most useful for peak limiting
- Medium Fast: 5 to 200ms
- Medium Slow: 10 to 400ms
- Slow: 25 to 1000ms, similar to the 160VU
- Program Adaptive Mode: to prevent unnecessary low-end distortion, the circuit acts slower for slow signals and faster for fast signals
