WD DC HC520 Internal HDD Overview

Featuring a helium-filled design, traditional perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) technology, and up to 6 Gb/s SATA III interface, the 12TB Ultrastar DC HC520 7200 rpm 3.5" Internal Data Center HDD makes it easy to expand the capacity of your data center and other enterprise systems. With 256MB of cache, this 7200 rpm hard drive is designed to deliver sustained transfer speeds of up to 255 MB/s. HelioSeal technology provides greater capacity, reliability, and power efficiency compared to previous generations that are filled with air.

The 512e formatting provides high compatibility with older computing and operating systems. Your data is protected with Instant Secure Erase (ISE) technology. This drive also has a 2.5 million hour mean time before failure (MTBF) with an Annualized Failure Rate (AFR) of 0.35%.

HelioSeal Technology
Fourth generation HelioSeal technology creates a stable internal environment while enabling an 8-disk design, which increases capacity the 20% compared to the previous generation. Also, when compared to 8TB Ultrastar air-filled drives, this HelioSeal hard uses 52% less power (Watts/TB), and is 25% more reliable, rated at 2.5M hours MTBF.
Data Center Ready
Data center features such as a second generation dual-stage actuator enhances head-positioning accuracy to deliver better performance, data integrity, and overall drive reliability, especially in multi-drive environments where operational vibration is present.
Security
In addition to having data encrypted at rest, Instant Secure Erase (ISE) technology is designed to effectively wipe data from all areas of the drive.
