Leofoto BV-20K Reviews
Great fluid head for use with my Vortex spotting scope and use with my Sony mirrorless camera and 200-600mm lens.
I purchased this so I could move and maneuver my scope during lake watches to track birds in flight. Since Great Lakes lakewatches often involve viewing birds at a great distance, I need stability and precision as well as ease of movement. This is exactly what I get with the Leofoto BV-20K. Since it uses the ArcaSwiss connection, I can easily attach both my scope and also easily swap out my scope with my Sony 200-600 mm lens, which I have equipped with a Leofoto SF-02 foot. To be clear, I have this tripod head mounted on top of a Robus RC-5570 Vantage Series 3 tripod. I mostly use it with my spotting scope, but when I mount my camera to it, it gives me great stability and precision when photographing perched birds, such as owls. In low light situations when I need the stability, this works quite well. I have NOT shot any video with my camera yet or attempted to photograph birds-in-flight, but I hope to soon.
Works as Stated
Easy to setup and use. Not as smooth as a good bullhead, but easier to setup quickly. The bubble level is small and hard to see. I use aRRS TA 30 tripod leveler in combination with it. The panning drag control makes little difference from off to full tightness. The optional handle makes panning As others have mentioned, another stop on the counter balance would be nice.
