Polsen MP60 Overview

The Polsen MP60 is a versatile, single-channel microphone preamp solution that offers up to 60 dB of clean gain along with a high-pass filter, polarity reversal, metering, and 48V phantom power for condenser mics. Ready for a wide variety of applications, including recording, performance, broadcasting, and streaming, this compact preamp features balanced XLR and unbalanced 3.5mm inputs and outputs housed in a rugged metal chassis. Adjustable Gain with Meter
The gain knob lets you precisely adjust the preamplifier's gain level up to +60 dB. The 8-segment meter clearly displays your signal strength and provides a red clip indicator to help you avoid overloading the input.
High-Pass Filter
The high-pass filter decreases frequencies below 120 Hz by 3 dB. It comes in handy when you're recording in a room with a lot of ambient noise. It also minimizes low-end rumble from air conditioning ducts, fans, and overhead lights.
Phase Switch
Two-microphone setups, like drum overheads or stereo guitar mics, can lead to phasing problems and thin-sounding audio due to missing frequencies. The phase switch reverses the polarity of the microphone signal to maintain a full sound.
Balanced XLR Input and Output
Whether it's RF interference from local radio signals or EM interference from power cables or other pieces of gear, the balanced XLR connections help to eliminate outside noise and interference, even with long microphone cable runs.
Phantom Power
The MP60 offers selectable 48V phantom power for compatibility with condenser microphones.
Unbalanced 3.5 mm Input and Output
The MP60 is compatible with any device with 3.5mm audio connectors. Use it to connect devices like headsets and lavalier microphones.
Rugged Metal Construction
The rugged and durable metal chassis has been engineered to survive the rigors of repeated use in demanding studio, location, and stage environments.

Polsen MP60 Reviews

Perfect for powering audio on my YouTube set

On my YouTube set I have five cameras, but a single mic. I wanted a simple way to send the same audio to all cameras so it would be easier to sync the different video clips in the edit. Yes, I could use built-in mics in each camera for scratch audio, but the audio quality/volume was sometimes poor, making it harder to sync in post. I connected this preamp to the Whirlwind Split6 (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/351514-REG/Whirlwind_SPLIT_6_SPLIT6_1x6_Line.html), which can take audio and split it out to six destinations. The Split6 needs line level audio to be able to split up to six ways. This preamp provides phantom power to my single mic, then outputs the line level audio I needed. Previously, I used Whirlwind's SP1X3 (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/351513-REG/Whirlwind_SP1X3_SP1X3_1x3_Mic.html) to split mic level audio to three cameras, so I did not need a preamp. Because I added cameras, the 3-way splitter would no longer work. I needed an amp that could power my mic and output line level audio needed by the Split6. This is a nice quality preamp, with simple controls for adjusting gain level. Audio quality is excellent. Very elegant solution for my needs.

Working better than expected

There are no reviews on this unit but it had all of the features we were looking for. We are using this with a SM58 mic and it gives that extra boost you need when people stand too far away from the podium. Just use the pad button on your mixer to cut static from the preamp and adjust the dial on the MP60 as needed for proper volume.

I want to use this to lift an original Shure 55s mic. Reviews say the similar Rolls is noisy. Is this unit noisy?
Asked by: Leslie
The Polsen MP60 Microphone Preamp is not designed to be the cleanest option and could introduce noise when used with a gain-hungry microphone like the vintage Shure 55s. While the Polsen MP60 provides up to 60 dB of gain, it is a budget preamp, and boosting a low-output mic to that extent will likely introduce a noticeable amount of self-noise.
