Holosun 407K - Best Bang for the Buck

I debated between getting the Holosun 407K and 507K for my Smith & Wesson Equalizer. After examining each for my purposes and budget, I chose the 407K Green Dot with 6 MOA. The main differences between the two optics are price and reticle system—the 407K has a 6MOA dot, and the 507K has a multiple reticle system (MRS) with three options: a 2 MOA dot, a 32 MOA circle, and a combined reticle. Both are open emitter optics. The more expensive Holosun EPS Carry has a closed-emitter optic, meaning it has a hood that protects the laser from debris. If you're planning to shoot or practice within 25 or even 50 yards, as I do, the 6MOA Dot is the best bang for the buck. If you want to reach out to 100 yards or better, the 507K with the 2MOA dot is better. My Equalizer is purposed for EDC/home defense, and is optics-ready with a compatible RMSc footprint. The Holosun 407K comes boxed with 3-pairs of flat head (FH) T10 TORX mounting screws—M4 x 9.8 mm, #6-32x3/8" and #6-32x1/2", each with Loctite pre-applied. A 5/64" (or H2mm) hex key (Allen) wrench is needed to remove the Equalizer's sight cover plate screws. Instead of the Holosun's TORX screws, I installed 5/64" hex key FH screws with the required #6-32x1/2", applied Loctite Blue 242 to the threads, and torqued them to 15 inch/lbs with a Wheeler F.A.T. Wrench. I initially sighted the dot using a Wheeler Professional Laser Bore Slighter and found it to be factory zeroed very close at 25 yards. Personally, at close range, I experience faster target acquisition with a larger dot. I found that lowering the brightness level makes the 6 MOA dot visually smaller and more comfortable to view. With the 2MOA dot, I tended to concentrate more on finding the dot, which was exacerbated by its shakiness in the viewing screen. I don't find the MRS with the circle to be of value since I prefer to practice only with a dot. The Green dot is better in my opinion and easier to see, especially in daylight. Co-witnessing with the iron sights isn't a problem either, should the battery fail. I also found the environmental working temperature for a 407K is -22°F to +140°F, and a 507K is -4°F to +149°F. So, for me in a Northern climate, the 407K may be the better buy. Be sure to register the unit for the warranty. The Holosun 407K is a great, affordable optic. B&H further sweetened the purchase with a free Klean Kanteen TKWide Insulated Bottle—combined with the best product pricing and customer service. Thank you, B&H Photo.

I tried to find one of these at the local store level and all had the 507K with three variants that I did not want. Found this on B&H and not only was it the one I wanted, but it was over $100 less expensive than all local stores. I put this on a Sig Sauer P365 and installation was vary easy because all tools are supplied. I did put some Loctite blue tube glue on the screws, which I was directed by the local firearms store to do if I was going to buy one to reduce screws coming loose over time. The sight is motion activated to wake up for fast use. Definitely would purchase another one.
