Mint Camera InstantFlex TL70 Plus Reviews

This will make you learn photography

No frills in the box, the operating manual is a download, and it is sparse. What they don't come out and say is this camera is either manual or aperture priority auto and the film is ISO 800. Outdoors on a sunny day you will need the ND filter set or spend you day shooting at f16 and f22. The in camera meter is off by a stop at least. I metered with the Luxi app on my phone to get better exposures. Now the painful part. The camera I ordered from B&H was defective-the flash would not work. Using the MiNT support I was able to get a new camera from them after shipping the defective one. I could not do this through B&H because I had registered the warranty. The new camera has the same inaccurate in-camera meter but the flash works. The flash is awful as it will over expose. I will most likely never use it. I put the camera on a tripod and with much deliberation set an exposure, set my composition, then press the button. Then wait five to ten minutes as the photo develops to see if I was right. This is the slow school of photography. It looks cool, the prints are interesting, but not as good as I had hoped. The photo was taken with an iPhone. Photo taken with the monochrome film at 5.6. Notice the edges.

Great niche camera

I really enjoy manual focusing on the big screen. I like having control of shutter speed an DOF. The light meter is accurate, but you need to understand how to compensate for backlighting, etc. Manual exposure control is in one-stop increments, I would like something finer than that. The optional ND filters are essential for outdoor shooting. This is my first time using instax film. It seems to have little exposure latitude and works best in low contrast situations. (No bright, sunny days.) Photos are sharp, but I don't think there's enough information to scan and make a larger print. That is not what the Instax format is intended to be used for.
