Is this compatible with the A6400 and any earlier series models?
Asked by: EDWARD
The ECM-M1 compact shotgun microphone is compatible with all cameras with the MI Shoe including the A6400. Sony's digital beamforming technology is only available on newer cameras that support this feature. When used on a camera like the A6400, you would set the "DIGITAL/ANALOG switch" to "ANALOG". What is the advantage of using "digital" mode over "analog"? (From someone who can only use analog via A7iii)
Asked by: Bobby
The Sony ECM-M1 Compact Camera-Mount Digital Shotgun Microphone can be used with Sony cameras that are equipped with a digital Multi Interface shoe. The mic attaches to the MI shoe with a cable-free connection and sends digital audio into the camera. Digital audio is typically cleaner with very low noise and records at a higher resolution in the camera than analog audio. The ECM-M1 does not have an analog output so it cannot be connected to wired mic input using a cable.
