Celestron StarSense Explorer Overview

Pairing the simplicity of a Dobsonian with a comprehensive but user-friendly smartphone app, the StarSense Explorer 114mm f/4 Tabletop Dobsonian Telescope from Celestron makes it easy to observe fascinating objects in the cosmos. No computerized mount is needed—simply place your phone in the dock attached to the optical tube, and after a quick alignment, the app will scan the sky and guide you to Jupiter's Great Red Spot, Saturn's rings, the Orion Nebula, and hundreds of other objects. When the bull's-eye on your phone screen turns green, the object is visible in your eyepiece.

Equipped with a 114mm parabolic primary mirror, the telescope can pick out the brighter objects, even when used in a city. A darker location will provide access to many more. The Tabletop Dobsonian is highly portable and can be used on a table, a car hood, or atop an optional tripod.

  • Navigate the sky within minutes of setting up, even with no telescope experience
  • StarSense Explorer app works with most modern smartphones, including iPhone XR, XS, and XS Max and up running iOS 18, and most devices running Android 12 or later
  • Rather than phone gyroscopes or accelerometers, the app uses a Lost in Space Algorithm to match star patterns it detects overhead to its internal database
  • Audio descriptions and detailed information about thousands of objects within the app's robust database
  • Alt-azimuth base with Teflon bearings and altitude brake permits smooth movement of optical tube for following objects across the sky
  • Optical tube can be adjusted in its cradle for the most comfortable observing position
  • Rack-and-pinion focuser accepts 1.25" eyepieces; 17mm and 10mm Kellner eyepieces included

I am overwhelmed by the image quality in a telescope that is under $300. First night out , I got great images of Jupiter, Saturn and Luna. It is very easy to set up and use. The StarSense app is also super easy to set up. It makes finding objects much easier.

You are able to mount a DSLR camera onto the Celestron StarSense Explorer 114mm f/4 Tabletop Dobsonian Telescope two ways. One way is to remove the eyepiece, and replace it with a T mount, and the appropriate dedicated camera T mount adapter. To see what T mount adapter you need, it will depend on the actual DSLR you want to mount. For example, here is one for Canon DSLRs with the Canon EF mount: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/261256-REG/Celestron_93419_T_Mount_SLR_Camera_Adapter.html and here is a T mount: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/202135-REG/Celestron_93625_SLR_35mm_OR_Digital.html The other way to mount a DSLR camera onto the Celestron StarSense Explorer 114mm f/4 Tabletop Dobsonian Telescope, is by using the T mount adapter, and the Novagrade T-Mount Digiscoping Adapter connected to each other, and that way you can create photographs taking advantage of the magnification of the eyepiece, (When you replace the eyepiece you loose all the magnification of the eyepiece) https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1142995-REG/novagrade_ua_00t1_01_t_mount_adapter.html
