I Bought And Kept It, However This Does Not Have The Traditional Pelican Quality. This Box Seems Flimsy And A Bit Warped. I Decided To Keep It Because I Bought It At A $100 Discount (Black Friday) Deal. Even At That Price ($400) I Really Struggled With Keeping It. The Box Also Does Not Stay Open When The Lid Is Lifted, You Have To Buy Their Aluminum "Lid Stays Kit" To Keep The Lid Open When You Open It. Looks Like Pelican Has Apparently Adopted The Airline Travel Technique And Has Nickeled And Dime You At Every Corner Possible. Like I Said, I Got A Solid Deal From B&H, No Tax And $100 Off But The Purchase Itself Is Not A Solid Case At All. In Addition To That, I Had To Purchase Roof Mount Kit To Tether It To The Roof Rack. Hope This Helps Your Purchase Decision Making. Personally, I Would Not Pay $500 For This Box. Pelican If You're Listening, Do Better! At Least Match The Price Point With The Quality Of The Item.
Firstly, if you are used to the sturdy classical Pelicases with perfect latches, forget all that. This is basically a large plastic box which for the purchase price you can't even properly use. It doesn't feel super sturdy, it doesn't open and close well. If you want to mount it on a car, you'll need ~$250 (seriously?) mounting hardware and $25 lid holding brackets if you want something else than your hand holding the lid open. With all this glory, you're at $750 (without tax) for a box, that can't even fit so much (if I throw in a single camping chair, it's nearly half full). It's probably the worst volume/price case you can find (unless you're comparing it to a Gucci bag). Oh, if you want to add padlocks, you won't fit a proper one, because the top latches are below the box surface so you can't insert a 8mm shackle. I had to go for a thinner 5-6mm. If the mounting hardware was included, I'd forgive all that, but with this price tag, I'd expect better.
